Guest guest
As my myo date is looming- early Feb, I have 2 main questions for those of you who have had myos: 1/ Have many of you ended up having a hysterectomy because of the size/ position of your fibroid? 2/ I will be in hospital for about 5 days apparantly-routine in UK I think. So what can I expect to do for myself after 5 days? I'll be staying with friends post-op so I wondered how long I should stay with them before returning to my own house- in other words how long will it be before I could cope on my own? [i hope sooner rather than later as I don't want to be burden on my friends] Looking forward to your informative replies Sue
Guest guest
Hi there- I just posted list of questions given that I am 3 weeks post surgery as of today. I did not end up having a hysterectomy although I did not know the end result of this until after the surgery. My surgeon had prepared me for the possibility of this but it wound up not being necessary. I had 4 fibroids removed- one of which was huge, another that was large. The other 2 I have no idea about since I was unaware (as was my doctor) of them until she went in to remove the two big ones. My experience is the following. I was in the hosptial for 4 days (3 nights)for the surgery. I stayed the last night because I was not moving my bowels and frankly, I felt like crap. But, I was ready to leave when I did the following morning and very happy to be home. I've spent the last 2 1/2 weeks slowly gaining my strength. It is a longer process then I had imagined. So, I recommend you be patient with yourself. Yesterday I drove for the first time and did a few errands and was totally exhausted by the time I got home. Sitting for long periods of time makes me tired as well so my computer time is limited somewhat these days. The pain, while most definitely present, is actually not horrible and thanks to the pain medication during the first week, was not all that bad. I am taking mostly Advil or Tylonol now if anything, with an occasional half a tyn/codiene when needed. The biggest problem I am feeling right now, is the swelling and strange feeling in my lower abdomen. Also the fact that my bladder feels strange and has since the surgery. So, the best advice I can offer from my experience at this point is to give yourself lots of time and do not be too hard on yourself if you just feel tired. (A lesson I am learning over and over every day). I am eating as much fresh food as possible- lots of spinach, veggies, etc. - no processed foods, little sugar, etc. and taking lots of vitamins (especially B's, C's and Iron) to regain my strength. I am not ready to go back to work yet (glad to see that the woman who responded below did not go back for 6 weeks- now I don't feel so guilty about being home!) but am ready to start thinking about it soon. Hope this helps!
