Now *that* brings back memories. My other strong memory of childhood was of

queuing in the bank so my mum could get some cash out which is something our

children won't have to do.

Don't know about you, but I used to love playing with the sawdust on the

the meat for the week.

I did numbers one and two a couple of weeks ago but discovered that Kieran's

nappies were on 3 for 2 so just *had* to get 3, you should have seen me

struggling to the till with 3 packs of nappies and some fruit juice!

This is sooooooooo familiar! I have finally worked out how to avoid it.

The rules are

1. leave the children in the car - I am so panicked that somebody will

snatch them/the car will blow up that I don't hang around (can see the car

from the express till btw).

2. don't take a basket/trolley/bag in to the shop - that way I can only

carry what I really need.

3. take cash - just enough.

I have a great book (American) called Frozen Assets which describes how to

buy enough for a months worth of meals and you then spend a day cooking

meals and dumping them all in the freezer. You can also start off in a small

way and do 2 weeks worth of meals. It sounds a terrible phaff (or however

you spell it!) but when i had a go i realised how much healthier our meals

are! She also saves an absolute fortune. There are loads of money saving

tips too.

All you need to do to start is buy a large amount of mince and make up a

vast pot of bolognese sauce and then freeze in small portions - that's

couple of meals to start with, She also does a nice meatball recipe - you

make them up and cook in the oven. Freeze on a baking tray until solid and

tip them into a freezer bag - you can the fish out the quantity you need

from the freezer and simply defrost and heat up in some tomato sauce.

If you want me to type up some recipes from her book let me know! - or join

the yahoo group she has set up called 'Frozen assets'

I must be really old too because I remember doing this - scuffling it

all around with my feet. I also remember the doctor at the surgery

used to give out sugar lumps every time we were taken to see him - I

actually looked forward to going to the doctors!

My doctor used to give us smarties!!!!

He was incidentally the doctor who delivered both me and my brother and will

be coming to my birthday party next week!
