Guest guest
Hello, Just curious about the older kiddos still in the bar?? Trenton will be four next month and possibly ready to come out of the bar, but I'm sure not ready. Unfortunately he complains a lot more than usual that his feet hurt!! He will complain and cry in the middle of the night sometimes, more here lately, to take off his shoes because it hurts, etc.. Any older babies experiencing this?? I do notice sometimes his big toes are a little red in the morning and he also complains about walking in the morning because his feet hurt?? I'm sending another video and some pictures to Dr. P soon, but just wanted to see if any other older babies experience this. Dr. P tells me that some kids just tolerate it longer than others. Trenton has usually always been great about his bar, until lately?? For those of you who stopped the bar at four, how where your kiddos around the end?? Any feedback from the older babies would be appreciated. Thanks, Charity
Guest guest
Charity, First of all, I'm so happy to hear that you are doing better. Recovering must've been such an ordeal. It makes it even more remarkable that you tackled such a huge project as the quilt, in the midst of such a stressful time for you. I hope you continue to feel better each day. I would love to come to the symposium. I've never been to one.. and that time period would be a possibility for us. Second, in answer to your question, Claire turned 4 a couple of weeks ago, and is still in the brace at night. We have occasionally gone through resistance from her, in getting it on at bedtime, but not lately. That seems to come and go. I often wait to put it on after she's fallen asleep. She has, in the past, complained of her foot hurting, and at the time I wondered if it was the brace, but have since determined that it wasn't. (I tend to blame the brace first for everything. =) She is one, I guess, who tolerates it well.. and Dr. P and I decided at her last checkup that since she does, and I don't mind using it, that we will continue for a bit more, just to be on the safe side. Her foot looks beautiful. I'll write more later.. I've gotta take her to ballet.. Talk to you soon. and Claire 6/29/00 > Hello, > > Just curious about the older kiddos still in the bar?? Guest guest
Hi Charity, had his FAB/DBB on until he was 4. He seemed to understand wearing it a bit more the closer he got to 4 years. He didn't say that his feet hurt. Thanks for your work on the quilt and Precious Little Feet. and (3-17-99) > Hello, > > Just curious about the older kiddos still in the bar?? Guest guest
Hi Charity, I'm glad you're feeling better. I certainly don't know how you got to manage surgery recovery, children, quilt stuff coordination, etc, etc but I'm glad to see you back in action! I'm so happy you brought this topic up because I do have the same question. To make a long story short for those who don't know me. My son was born on Oct. 2000 with unilateral clubfoot (right), started treatment with Dr. Ponseti when he was about 6 months old and has been wearing the brace since then. We moved to Australia a year ago and last time we saw Dr P was April 2003 (at that time my son was 2.5 years old). In that opportunity Dr P. advised us to keep him wearing the brace at night for one more year. On April 2004 we decided to follow Dr. P advise and let him sleep without wearing the brace for about 3 or 4 weeks. We did this until I saw a posting of you about chances of relapse in older kids. Therefore (and also because my son was a late starter with the treatment) we decided to have him back oon the brace until at least he turns 4 (Oct 2004). My son has ALWAYS been VERY GOOD about wearing the brace, he never complained, was always very willing to cooperate; however and to our surprise, when we put him back in the brace after a few weeks break he started complaining about it. He would wake up in the middle of the night saying that his big toe hurts and that he wants the brace to be taken off. He does not make a big deal out of it, but he never ever did that, so I don't know why he is doing it now. We also noticed that he would not complain when wearing the brace every night in a row, but if for any circunstaces he does not wear it for one night (we used to be very diligent about it but have kind of relaxed a little bit recently and might let him have a night off) the next night he will complain again about his big toe hurting. We have been using the red ionized adjustable bar, the small one, but were thinking about getting the bigger one wondering if his complain has something to do with it. I'm sorry I don't have very much to add, just my experience which happens to be very similar to yours! Thanks for coordinating the quilt activities, I sure would love to attend to that symposium in November; however we now live very far away. Guest guest
Charity, I doubt you directed this to me, but I'll answer anyway. Jakob stopped wearing the brace in September 2001 when he was 3 1/2. He never complained about his feet hurting while he wore it though. He complained once that his feet hurt, but he didn't want to go to school that day (needless to say, he went to school) charity@... wrote: > Hello, > > Just curious about the older kiddos still in the bar?? Guest guest
, Happy belated birthday to Claire, sorry I missed it!! We also put Trenton's shoes on after he goes to sleep and he never has had a problem with his shoes until lately, except for a few times over the past four years when he was very sick, etc.?? I'm wondering if it is something to do with age and or development?? I asked Dr. Ponseti if it could be hurting his feet and he said NO, and that was my biggest concern. I just find it odd that he complains so much now that he's older, but he too has ups and downs of complaining and not complaining. Thanks for your response. Take Care, Charity and Trenton (8-24-00) PS I hope you will be able to make it to the symposium. I will let Dr. P know you are a maybe!!
