Guest guest
We used pipe insulation around our bar and then I sewed a cover over it to look better. Another idea is the padding that goes over a child's bike handlebars if you can find one of those. s. Callie, I'm looking for something to pad my son's bar with and hubby just happens to be going to Walmart later. Where in Walmart would he find the seatbelt pads? I take it they work pretty well? My son is just about 4 months old and he's getting pretty close to smacking himself in the head with the bar so I want to get something on there before he actually does it. Thanks! and BCF 03/25/2004 DBB 23/7 Re: first days of brace > Hey ! > My son (BL CF, 10 mos. old, DBB 16 hrs) was one of those babies who > never cried. Guest guest
HOT GLUE. haha..... works great though, that's what I used to " Sew " the cover over the pipe insulation. What I'd like to know is what I can use on my bar cover that would create a non-slip surface. When Everett stands on his bar is slips out from under him unless he is on carpet. I tried using hot glue and it worked for about two days before it dried too hard to be non-slip anymore. s. Guest guest
Thanks Holly. We originally were looking for the bike pads, but so far we haven't had any luck at all finding any. I'm not really all that crafty myself, except for cross stitch, but maybe I can put one original set of seatbelt pads around the bar and then sew two of them together so they'll fit around the bar after a set is already on there, if that makes sense. Might provide a little extra padding that way. and BCF 03/25/2004 DBB 23/7 Re: first days of brace > > > > > > > Hey ! > > > My son (BL CF, 10 mos. old, DBB 16 hrs) was one of those babies > who > > > never cried. Guest guest
puffy fabric paint will work wonders for this. Guest guest
LOL No - a second opinion that agrees with the first is always nice to have! Guest guest
OK, I'll look for that - how do I know what is " puffy " ? I've never bought or used fabric paint. s. Guest guest
I'd give up pretty to give him more traction - we only have one room of carpet too, and he spends most his time in the kitchen or dining room with me where it's slippery. What do you do with the athletic tape, is it no-skid? s. Re: Re: first days of brace Try fabric paint. I used to paint the bottons of my oldest's socks and it was almost like non skid. Not exactly, but it does work better than nothing. You could also put some neoprene on it, like diving stuff. OK, not everyone has that lying around but I think it could be found. A double layer of that non skid foamy stuff might do the trick too. I can't remember what you call it exactly, comes in a roll. We use it on the boat to keep stuff in place. Glue would help make it strong enough to handle standing on it perhaps. We don't have a problem because I just use athletic tape, Darbi's brace is not pretty lol. I keep meaning to make it pretty but I haven't done it yet. Now I have to worry about her sliding all over the place if I do it - not much carpet here. Does this mean I can scratch that off my list? :~} Kori Mama of Kenton 6/98 Merek 3/00 Darbi 3/03 - Rt. Guest guest
no, I tape the pipe insulation together. I tape all across the bottom where she stands on, long strips - all the way to the edges. Then I tape perpendicular a small piece right on the edges for strength. And of course the middle inside where the seam is. I put the tape there to hold it shut. I can send you a pic - it's not that interesting though. Just a grey piece of pipe insulation cut a little where the soles of the shoes are, all taped up with black athletic tape lol. Pretty uggie if you ask me. It's not non-skid but she doesn't ever slip in it so apparently it works for that. Guest guest
It just sticks up a bit more than the regular fabric paint so it grips better. If you can't readily see it, ask the clerk.
