Guest guest
I tried to call his office a few weeks ago and talked to the receptionist. She told me that I had to go through a referral process (even though my ins. doesn't require it). I explained that Kaitlin has already been diagnosed and is currently being treated for clubfoot. I also explained that I didn't think my current ortho. would refer me to his competitor in writing. She said it didn't matter, I had to have a referral that would then have to go to a review process and if they decided I could go then the Nurse Pract. would call me and tell me which Monday I could go. I explained that sometimes things happen and you can't wait. I asked if I was a patient and needed to see the doc on a Monday other than my assigned day could I? She bluntly told me " No. " I can't believe that a doctor would not be accomadating to his patients, especially pediatric ones. But she repeatedly told me that this is the way it works. I have been hesitant to bring this up with our current ortho for obvious reasons...I hate to burn bridges with him in case we would ever need to see him again. Is this the way that Dr. Frick's office runs?? I felt like I would be lined up with a bunch of other clubfoot parents/babies and the doctor would walk by saying " brace, cast, looks okay.. " and never even spend the time to assess and discuss Kaitlin's foot with me. Is this the way it works? I hope that it is not and maybe you can re-assure me about it. I have never heard of such a thing for a doctor's office, especially when my copay is so expensive for specialists. Sorry if this sounds silly, but that is how the receptionist made it sound. Guest guest
: That was a horrible experience and I can understand your fear of burning bridges. You can post to the group b/c I know that there are others that see Dr. Frick. I drive 3 hours to see him. In addition to him I have seen three other docs- including Ponseti himself. I have found Dr. Frick to be very accommodating and kind. My first visit to the clinic was a little crazy. I had to wait a while. On the other hand, now knowing that he sees all the kids that need him- that is going to create a wait. All I can suggest is that you call or the clinic. You can e-mail him at steven.frick@... I know that he will get you in sooner than later. Everyone knows the quicker you address issues the better your chances are and I think that is one reason he " double books " so often. Let me know if you need more assistance Re: Re: Dr Frick > I tried to call his office a few weeks ago and talked to the receptionist. > She told me that I had to go through a referral process (even though my ins. > doesn't require it). Guest guest
, I have met Dr. Frick and number of times and he is very committed to the Ponseti method and helping children receive treatment. My impression is that his receptionist does not represent his approach. I would encourage you to leave a message for him to call you. Dr. Frick's own child had clubfoot and would now be in his late teens. Dr. Frick has also participated in a number of Ponseti method related studies. http://www.aaos.org/wordhtml/anmt2004/sciprog/268.htm He also presented a study on the Ponseti method at the 2002 International Congress on Clubfoot and has done a combined study with Dr. Herzenberg. > I tried to call his office a few weeks ago and talked to the receptionist. > She told me that I had to go through a referral process (even though my ins. > doesn't require it). Guest guest
: I am so glad! He is really accommodating. Remember that when you are waiting for him! LOL. Sometimes the clinic gets backed up- but it turns no one away! Tell him I said hello if you think about it. I am from Raleigh. He has been great to us and so many others. I wish you the best of luck tomorrow! Dr Frick WOW! , Thank you for Dr. Frick's email address. I emailed him on Friday and just checked my email. He will see us on Monday. Part of his response was: " You can call Monday morning and tell them you are coming- if they give you any grief just show up at 130 pm and I will take care of it. No return favors needed - this is what I do... " Thanks for the encouragement to contact him. I would have given up and stuck with our other doctor without it. Maybe things will start to get better. I had to leave Kaitlin's shoes off for the past nights because on Friday the sores were definently coming back. The newest red spots are still there tonight and she hasn't had them on in 2 days... We need help and maybe tomorrow we will get some. Thank you EVERYONE! Freeman Kaitlin Freeman 3/9/04 LCF

Guest guest
Kaitlin is doing alright...she gets her cast off on July 12th and then it is back to the DBB. How is Will doing? I couldn't even tell which foot was the clubbed one!!! Freeman Kaitlin Freeman 3/9/04 LCF
Guest guest
Hi, Will is doing fine, although the DBB is a bit of a challenge (for me - he seems not to care at all.) We have been back to the orthotist once for red spots on his heels, and twice for padding because he keeps slipping out of the shoes, especially his club foot. I think we have it now, although he still slips out occasionally. Now he has a red spot on the top of his normal foot, where the strap goes. I put some duoderm on it and I'm watching it. Did you get any other responses from patients of Dr. Frick's? Here is my email address if it is just the two of us: mgoodmanbecker@.... By the way, you mentioned Kaitlin got some really bad blisters from the DBB. Can you tell me more about how that happened, since I'm not really sure what is to be expected. Did her shoes slip a lot too? Do you go to Hanger orthotics on Randolph? Thanks. Maggie > Kaitlin is doing alright...she gets her cast off on July 12th and then it is > back to the DBB. Guest guest
Hi- So there are two s! We live in Charlotte. I don't know what your experience has been to this point, but I would strongly recommend Dr. Frick. He has trained with Dr. Ponseti, and is so kind and gentle with my son. I can give you the phone # and information if you want. I will caution you that the clubfoot clinic is run at Myers Park clinic, which is also a clinic for the underserved. Because of this, sometimes it runs a little slowly. Dr. Frick also has a private office, but says he prefers to see clubfoot patients at Myers Park clinic because that's where his casting tech and Physician's Assistant are, and it has been fine for us. Let me know if you want more information. Maggie Will 5/19/04 RCF > > > Kaitlin is doing alright...she gets her cast off on July 12th > and > > then it is > > > back to the DBB. How is Will doing? Guest guest
Hello, Just wanted to jump in and say my son got really bad blisters on the back of his feet. So bad that he could not be casted or in the dbb for a month. Not sure how it happened think that it was from him working the bar back and forth trying to get it off. Tyler has had a very hard time with the dbb, I think because they never got the fit right with the shoes. Don't think it was anything about the bar, My advice is just make sure that they fit your child right. Tyler has had shoes that were too small or too big have yet to get his right. , Tyler's mom bi lat cf 1/14/03 > > Kaitlin is doing alright...she gets her cast off on July 12th and > then it is > > back to the DBB. Guest guest
It occured to us after we started the dbb routine that perhaps while the baby wears that last set of casts a bar could be connected to those casts to help the child get used to having his legs held with a bar then maybe he wouldnt' fight the bar so bad once he started wearing it for real....anyone have any opinions on this? Sounds logical, but that doesn't mean it would work in real life. Re: Dr Frick Hello, Just wanted to jump in and say my son got really bad blisters on the back of his feet.
