Guest guest
i also read this blurb.i was a bit concerned by the way that they said they were treating it with the braces. i assume its like the AFO but it doesnt say. i know that a lot of people dont recomend that but you are right at least its getting coverage. Now maybe people wont look so cross at a babe in casts. allyn ny & Rich jenrichtrevillian@...> wrote: Did anyone else notice the small blurb about clubfoot treatment in Parents Magazine's August issue (p. 78)? I will try to focus on the *positive* and say that I'm glad that it's being addressed in that magazine, and it appears from the text that the boy (bilateral) was treated with the Ponseti method... I have some issues with some of the text, but I won't get on my soapbox! At least it's getting coverage!

Guest guest
I think that we should all contact the magazine. Maybe if we do then they will write another article and mention this group. There are so many clueless parents out there. I almost was...I new nothing of Dr. Ponseti until I ran across this group. We could make a difference for those parents who don't know. Guest guest
I just read the article and had to laugh. You're right that the positive is that it is getting some coverage but it's obvious that the unknown author didn't bother to take the time to do any research. , I know that you didn't want to make a big deal about the text but I can see where you would have issues with it. This exerpt had me rolling my eyes, " ...Once it became clear he needed more aggressive treatment....(the parents) chose a technique called tenotomy.... " Huh?! Guest guest
I'm tempted to write to the magazine to point out the errors in their representation of treatment! Guest guest
Hi! Actually, I was considering doing this. I am a freelance writer and thought this would be an excellent topic that you don't hear about everyday. I am working on something right now, sort of an " in my experience " type of story, but with background info and other resources to mention. In order to submit a story, you have to also submit a letter of proposal first, which takes 6-8 weeks to receive an answer. When I send the letter, I'll let you know what they say. 11.23.03 > I think that we should all contact the magazine. Maybe if we do then they > will write another article and mention this group. Guest guest
Daiga, I think you should! I still haven't gotten my August issue yet, but it sounds pretty bad, judging from what the others have said. Write in and say something. That's what I would do. People write in all the time praising/complaining about articles that are written. It's obvious this person had no idea what they were talking about ... " a technique called tenotomy... " what a joke! As a writer, that really irritates me. 11.23.03 > > Yeah, that one cracked me up, too. WHAT??? No research. That's > for sure. Guest guest
We were just in Iowa City for a couple appointments with Dr. Ponseti. He has a one page article posted in his 'small procedure room' as they called it, which describes a few different orthopedic birth defects and the best methods of treatment. The Ponseti Method is mentioned in the clubfoot portion. If I remember correctly it was from the September 2002 issue of Parents or Parenting, I can't remember which one, but I remember the date because it was the same month that Emma was born. In examining Emma's feet, he was interested in the creases on the interior of her feet. The whole section of that part of the foot is like a big divot, or dimple as he called it. He said he has never seen that before. I was quite surprised to hear of something he hadn't seen in reference to clubfoot! He and one of the other doctors broke out the digital camera and took pictures of her feet. Who knows, maybe someday she'll have her tootsies in a medical book somewhere! www.pediatric-othopedic-foundation.org > I agree!
