Guest guest
Hello everyone. I hope all is well with you and your loved ones. My name is e and I am being induced on June 2nd to give birth to my first baby, litte Gracie. Gracie is also said to have an ompholocele besides having clubfeet. I am anticipating that she will be in the hospital for a few weeks to have her closure done. I just have some questions for you been there and done that parents. When she gets her feet casted and we have her home, can we put socks or those little booties on her feet? I am asking because we had our baby shower not so long ago and we received cute outfits but many came with socks or some were the one piece footed outfits. I wanted to know if there was a limit to what she could wear on her feet. We also have some stockings, (CUTE ONES) and they match her outfits, so would that be an issue as well? Please email me or reply back to this post and help me out. I would also appreciate any pointers and tips you all have for a first time soon to be mommie.... I am getting excited and nervous at the same time. As of today I have 13 more days remaining until I oficially become a MOMMIE.... Thanks in advance for the replies. Stay safe and God Bless e. mrs_cajuste@... ms_nancye@...
Guest guest
What you can put over the casts is only limited by the size of the casts and the size of the itme in question. Often times the socks and booties that come with outfits are far too large to realistically fit a newborn's foot, but will fit very nicely over a cast! Also, we had some very tiny booties that fit well over the feet prior to casting (no small feat considdering how crooked that thing was! lol) but not with the cast on. Our son only had one clubfoot, so we continued to use the booties on his foot that was not in casts. Footed jammies work great over the casts. You may not be able to slip the foot of the cast all the way down into the foot part of the outfit, but it will work just fine. The fact is, unless you have a baby 9 lbs or more, most " newborn " clothes are quite large on newborns. (An example, my first daughter was 6 lb, 4 oz - not tiny, but a bit smallish, and even preemie clothes were huge on her! She wore cabbage patch clothes for a while! My son, who was barrel chested and 7 lb, 4 oz swam in newborn clothes for a while, too, tho preemie clothes fit him well.) Angel > Hello everyone. Guest guest
e, I agree completely with Angel. You'd be surprised how things can expand to fit those casts. It's when you get the DBB's that things get interesting... No more footie anythings. So I cut some of them off and put elastic around them or just hemmed them. Now she can wear some of those cute things without the feet. Chris Re: About to deliver soon and I have some questions. Guest guest
Hi e, Congratulations! That is wonderful news and good that you know about Gracie's feet before she is born. We had surprise club foot and Zoe got her 1st cast when she was 8 days old. While her casts were on I still put footed pjs and socks that matched her outfit on. The cast should be open toed and you will have to stretch the sock around it, but it works. Now that Zoe has the FAB 23 hrs a day she is out of it from 7-8 at night during bath etc. and I try to plan her outfit and socks for the next day so that when I put the bar back on at night she is matched up for the next day. I guess you could always take the FAB off in the a.m. and put tights, bloomers on and put the FAB back on. Just keep in mind too that the FAB should only be 23 hrs/day for 3 months and then cut hours after that, so there will be more flexibility. I dress Zoe in gowns for bed now and am looking for more PJs that have snaps all the way down the leg and no feet. I only have 2 pairs of those. I hope this helps some, I know there are a lot more experienced parents out there who will give you some suggestions too. Keep us posted on the birth of baby Grace. Guest guest
e, Congratulations on the coming arrival of your little girl. I agree with the other postings that it depends on the size of your little girl and the size of her casts. wore gowns for the majority of the time while in her casts. I also bought stretch pants from Old Navy that fit right over her casts. She is now in the brace 23/7 and I find it easiest to have her wear p.j.s and outfits that have snaps up the inside of her legs. They can be hard to find but they are out there. The Child of Mine brand at Walmart have a couple of outfits that work as either a gown or as pants depending how you snap it up. I use these as pajamas. I think pajamas are the hardest to find because there are so many sleep n plays with the feet sewn in. While she is in casts these may work. You can also cut the feet off and hem the bottom so you can continue to use them while she is in the brace 23/7. My sister-in-law did this for a few of 's sleepers. (I am technically challanged when it comes to sewing anything!) Kohl's also had a few pajamas that snap and don't have feet sewn in. The brand is Bon Bebe. You will become a pro at finding outfits that work with casts and bracing. I've found that the best socks for to wear with the brace are the ones from Old Navy with the grippers on the bottom. They come in an assortment of colors and like Louisa mentioned in an earlier post, I match 's socks with her outfit the night before. Sorry if I've rambled on and on. We'll be thinking about you and Gracie in the next few weeks. Best of Luck!! Bridget and blcf 2/20/04 ( sandals 23/7- one month down - 2 to go!!) mrscajuste mrscajuste@...> wrote: Hello everyone.
