Unfortunately I have no idea how to make Broccoli slaw.

Many salad bars and delis feature it and I just love it. The kind I've had

has finely chopped broccoli, and carrots raisins and bacon bits in what I think

is Cole slaw dressing. I bet there are recipes on the web.

Raw Broccoli is awesome, the boiled variety to me taste like boiled tree bark

YUCK!

Just as well the benefits are with the raw stuff anyway!

They won't let me eat Broccoli and I would love some! I have read you have to

eat it mixed with tomato's though but they would be ok. I am not allowed to eat

any fresh fruit or veggies plus not much of anything I think is good for my

diet. My surgeon has been on vacation and I have anxiously waited for his return

as it is time to get something done so I can eat regular and leave the house

away from the bathroom:) When my last PET showed cancer again he had said we

could do surgery or wait and take another scan. I stayed calm for awhile but

lately am very nervous about it. Last year when my PET said cancer it turned out

false. I hope this is but then something has to be done about my striture or

what ever has been causing problems for the past 22 months since my colon

resect.

He said the PET only showed cancer not a tumor or anything else. I am going to

insist tomorrow to have another scan and wonder what would show if this was a

mass or tumor? Last year they had to go in and do cat scan guided biopsies.

That is when my irregular heart beat showed up but anyone having a big needle

put in their back and half through the body just might have irregular

heartbeats:) Actually it was not so bad. After going through the endoscopic

ultra sound guess I can handle any of them. I have always had a fear about

anything going down my throat. He said this last pet just showed up area around

the staples in my colon. I can't have a colonoscopy because of the striture they

can't get the instrument in. Insurance won't pay for the virtual colonoscopy so

none of the Dr's here are doing them.

All of this waiting and guessing is just too awful. I am adding some

extra prayers for you too. And am hoping you can get to have Boccoli.

fresh fruit and veggis soon. Ingrid

If you can get someone else to wash and cook the broccoli you could

probably eat a little bit. The Leafy green vegies react some how with

the blood thinner some of us are taking. You can get canned or frozen

in a pinch...

Any veggie I eat has to be canned and unfortunately because Broccoli is gassy it

is a no no on my soft diet list. I have a terrible gas problem with everything

that is not even suppose to cause gas. That is why I think it is time I get some

answers.

Try taking Beano that will cure the gas in a heartbeat. Was recommended

awhile for when I took trip to Ireland - eating their delicious soda

bread causes major gas. Had to stop eating it before I came home, they

would have kicked my off the plane. Course no doubt everyone was in the

same situation. LOL... Gas-X works too I believe. Boy if I had just

got the Beano the other day I could have had some relief... LOL I think

gas problem is just the nature of the beast...

You can buy the chopped shreded broccoli in most salad depts of a good

supermarkets. I got it one tme and it turned out to be a bit too much

broccoli... About a 1/4 of it with regular slaw would have been good

enough. ... Sounds good with carrots, raisins and bacon bit. Doesn't

take much to get me thinking of food and finding somehthing that soothe

my hunger desires. I want some nice big fat shrimp marinated, maybe

lightly breaded and cooked on the barbie... They have it on sale now for

$9.99 lb about 12-15 biguns per lb. Yummmm... Course to compensate

think I will make something cajun that has sausage and little bitty

shrimps in it and beans. Going to cook something extra for when we go to

daughter Laurie's tomorrow, having a small part for her hubby's daughter

who is here visiting from UK.. Got to finish up the stuff I made her. A

Sort of journal album with places for writing about her trip to America

and meeting her cousins etc and also extra places for photos. She is 9

should still get a kick out of stuff like that. Her half sisters are

being a pain, jealous cause she came and they didn't. They are older and

are too busy playing guilt games with their dad so he compensates by

buying them things etc. Exchange rate is not a pleasant subject in there

house right now. LOL...

Well I feel much better this morning. It won't last I am sure. Have to

do my shot, take my meds and clean up family room. Then will go to

grocery store to buy what I need for tomorrow.

Made out my bills and I am officially broke - pay day not until Friday..

So now I scrape until mid month. Hopefully get caught up by then and

back on track.. Take care all Jolene

Hil,

Are you by any chance drinking milk? milk products? If so, they produce

lots of gas. Try for the Lactose Free. Works like a charm.

I am not sure if it is related to Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

If that is what you have there is a website you could visit.

Just search " Shaz's Pages " . If you have a problem let me know.

Recipe sounds great.

I am assuming everyone here knows to leave out the sugar.

Karima

I have a really large article on sugar feeding cancer but don't know how to

upload it. Sugar is a definite no no for people with cancer...it feeds the

cancer.

I never thought about it but actually the boiled variety gives me MORE gas

and I don't have cancer.

As for Phil and the boys they won't eat anything green unless you count lime

Jell-O and mountain dew LOL

When you eat plain broccoli, you eat it raw? Does that not cause more

gas? Which causes less gas? Raw or boiled? Love raw brocoli with vegi

dip. Ingrid

I honestly think thre chemo causes the stinky bad gas. Had day two of

chemo today and was worried the nurse would happen to come in my room

when I had to let one go.

So stinky. Had a room to myself so could not blame it on someone

else. LOL And of course had to leave my dog home so could not blame

the dog either. LOL Ingrid

Sounds yummy!! Will try to make it and have it in a few weeks when

chemo mouth gets better. Want to tast every drop of it. Also have

used that mayo, vineger and sugar dressing with cucumbers and

tomates. Can substitute sour cream for the mayo. It is good that way

too. Not sure if sour cream would go with broccoli. Perhaps not.
