Guest guest
Tina, I had the same problem with my son. I often had to come home from work and put the shoe back on. My son's heel on his left foot didn't drop down as much as the right and his foot was so small at the time (he was wearing size 0000). The way I solved the problem was I put his shoe on barefoot. I found that without the sock there was less of a chance that it would slip. I put some powder in the shoe so the foot would slide in good. As his foot grew, I didn't have the problem anymore. He is now wearing a size 1. JoAnn 10/22/03 bcf DBB 12/

Guest guest
Hi JoAnn! Thank you so much for your help. He is sleeping right now but as soon as he wakes up, I will take that sock off and see if it works for him too! > Tina, > > I had the same problem with my son. Guest guest
Hi Tina, Not sure what kind of shoes you have but Zoe's foot slipped until I moved the strap to the lower slit on her reverse last (I think straight last have the two slits as well). And I wasn't getting her heal all the way in for the first couple of days. If the barefoot doesn't work out, I have read that some put on 2-3 pairs of socks if the foot is really small. Good luck, let us know how it goes. Louisa and Zoe 2-22-04 rucf > Hi again everyone. I hope some of you can help me. I am so fustrated > with Ethan's DBB, I don't know what else to do. Guest guest
I got the new Markell shoes and they had a nylon type shoe lace and Tori pulled her foot out all of the time. I put in an all cotton shoelace that has less give and it helped a lot. Also you could try tying the shoelace upside down where the bow is by the toes. Does it have the insert in the back, can't remember the name. You can check the files and the history and maybe able to come up with some other things to try. Guest guest
Tina, I don't know if this applies to Ethan or not, but in reading many, many similar posts over the years, the ability of the baby to pull the foot out of the shoe easily is often a sign that the foot is not completely corrected, and therefore needs more casting before going into the brace. It could also be that the shoes are too big for Ethan, or that you're not getting the heel all the way down into the shoe before strapping & snugging the laces....or other problems. Another thing to look at is to make sure that the distance between the shoes is acceptable, if the bar is too short, he can also pull his foot out. Also, the U of Iowa uses the foam horse-shoe shaped counter-bumpers in the back of the shoes, called plastizode inserts to help keep the foot in. Do you have these in Ethan's shoes? Info on the brace set-up can be found in the files section here, or at http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links you can print it off and bring it to your doctor/orthotist. I hope some of this helps you to trouble-shoot the problem. & (3-16-00) left clubfoot, switched to Ponseti method at 4 months old > Hi again everyone. I hope some of you can help me. Guest guest
Hi Tina, My grandson Andrez had the same problem - his left foot always seem come out of the shoe. We tried everything recommended but still wouldn't stay in. He developed a really bad blister and could not wear the shoes until his blister healed. It took over 8 days to completely heal and by that time his foot had already started to relapse and had an even harder time getting his foot in. We had to wait another week to see our doctor. In the meantime we sent pictures to Dr. Ponseti who said it looked like Andrez may have lost a little correction being out of the shoes for so long. He also said that since Andrez's feet were so short and chubby that it would be hard to fit in any type of shoe. We also are using the Markell open toe white shoe, but the older ones. Dr. Ponseti said that new sandals have worked well with the smaller chubbier feet. Once we get Andrez's cast remvoed in 3 weeks and he is ready to go back in the shoes, we will either try the new Markell shoes or spend the $350 for the sandals. I feel your frustration, Andrez only wore his shoes for 1 week before he developed the blister. He doesn't mind the castings but hated the shoes. Hopefully this time out of the cast his foot will be in a better position to stay in them. Good luck!! > Hi again everyone. I hope some of you can help me. Guest guest
Tina, I just re-read the info. about setting up the brace put together by Hall. From the following quote, it would seem that part of the problem is that the clubfoot heel is not correctly formed. Over time, the shoes help to form the heel and then the feet stop slipping out. Only Zoe's clubfoot came out of the shoe when we first started using the shoes. " On the inside of the shoe, above the heel, there is a pink pad that creates an area for A NORMAL HEEL TO DEVELOP AND GROW INTO; it also helps to prevent the heel from coming out of the shoe. " I think she's referring to the plastizote insert that I believe is no longer in use with the newly redesigned Markell shoes... After a short time, we no longer needed the plastizote in her shoes. Only those first few weeks until the shoe stopped coming off... Hope this helps. Joanne W. mom to Zoe (3-25-01, right clubfoot) > Hi again everyone. I hope some of you can help me. Guest guest
Thanks . I will try the bow upside down and if that doesn't work I will try cotton laces. I talked to the ortho today and he wants to see Ethan and make sure his foot isn't regressing. I kind of think that is what is happening since it is always the same foot. I will let you know!! Guest guest
Hi ! I completely agree with you. I think the foot is not completely corrected. We will find out on Friday. I don't think his shoes are too big because he just pulls the right foot out, never the left. Today, he pulled it out 2 minutes after I put it on again!! I will let you know what happens. Thanks !
