[sue] Sounds horrifically formal! Steffi's assessment for her school

in the UK consisted of a box of toys and some paper and crayons being

placed at our feet during the time Grae was told all about the

school's computers (cos he's in IT)! She was only 2.4 at the time

but I breathed a sigh of relief when I saw a jigsaw in there - she

could do those standing on her head. It was two different puzzles

though, in the same box, with different size pieces and by the time

the headteacher realised, Steffi had already started making two

different jigsaws.

> I once worked for an independent school assessing their 3/4 year olds for

entry - my brief apart from keeping the children at east until they were

taken by the teachers doing the formal assessment, was to see if they could

crawl or not, and if not to note it down. It didn't affect their chances of

being taken in, but they kept a note because if there was a query for

dyslexia they had noticed there could be a connection. Probably not true

of all children who don't crawl, but often true of dyslexics apparently.

However my DD dyslexic did crawl, although briefly. Maybe there's something

on the British Dyslexia Association's site: www.bda-dyslexia.org.uk if

anyone is interested in pursuing further. The Dyslexia Institute probably

also has a site.

I'm midly dyslexic and never crawled. In fact my Mum swears I never moved

when any one was watching, but somehow did when her back was turned.

My sister crawled incredibly fast and checked my essays for me, else my long

suffering english master ran out of red ink.
