Guest guest
My guess is that it IS MA, for which casting is NOT necessary. The other possibility is positional clubfoot, for which casting is ALSO not necessary. My second child was born with left positional clubfoot and bilateral moderate MA. She was never casted for either, and although when she has a growth spurt the MA becomes more pronounced, she is just fine (and the positional clubfoot is completely gone (-; ) Angel need help from experts on this one... i just got a call from a friend whose niece was born last night with " feet that turn in " . she said the doctors told the parents it's not clubfoot, the baby's feet were just starting to turn in because she was running out of room in the womb and that casting for 2 months would take care of it ~ they casted the baby today. has anyone heard of this? how can a baby's feet all of a sudden start turning without there being something more than CF/MA to blame? i just told her that i was happy that everything worked out for them, but in my gut i hope that they're doing the right thing. thanks! Guest guest
I'm no expert, but I just did a little research on Metatarsus Adductus (Varus) since I wasn't very clear on what it was. It seems that MA only affects the forefoot while clubfoot affects the forefoot and the equinus and something else. MA sometimes is positional and in most cases will correct itself without any intervention. Some MA is non-flexible and will require casting. I suppose if the doctors of the baby feel that it needs correcting with casting right off the bat that it must be non-flexible. I actually am in a similar position right now with a very good friend of mine having just had a baby whose foot was turned in slightly at birth. Her doctors have also told her that it is positional, but they are not doing any casting at this point. They have shown her stretching exercises and are waiting to see if it corrects on its own since it is so flexible. I just told my friend that I sincerely hope that it all works out well, but if she has any questions about our experience then please feel free to ask. I want so badly to tell her not to listen to the doctor without doing her own research and to be proactive in her babies care, but I'm not sure how she would react to that. The best I can do right now is make myself available to her. She is aware of our endeavour to correct Olivia's clubfoot with the Ponseti method and all that we went through to get Livie to Iowa, so I at least know that she understands there are other alternatives besides surgery. If her doc even suggests surgery, I hope that she is brave enough to say no. Sorry I can't be of more help! I hope everything goes well for them!
