Barb -- I went with the Global system since is the only one with hearing

aids in our family. Felt that would be just a good size.

Kind of a funny .... I contemplated getting the Professional (larger size) in

case we ever dropped an electronic product in water (or the toilet ... didn't

someone here do that?) and needed to dry it out. (HaHaHa)

Can't say enough about the Dry and Store!!

That's a great price, Kay - did you get a Dry and Store Global or the larger

one (I can't remember its name). We've had a Dry and Store for quite awhile -

maybe 5-6 years? I can't imagine having two kids with hearing aids and NOT

having a Dry and Store. I can testify that it saved Tom's brand new Claro

hearing aid a few years back...

We now have two Dry and Stores (or is that Dries and Stores?!). When Tom got

his implant, the company provided a Dry and Store Global. You're right - it

rocks!

The dry and store professional is bigger overall but the spaces to put hearing

aids is smaller than the one in the global. The global is smaller over all but

the area where you place the HA is much bigger than the Professional one. This

is one time where bigger isn't bigger!! in GA

For parents with younger children, just note that the Dry & Store

Global's lightbulb is built into the hinged door of the unit and can be

easily touched (I have to be careful not to bang into it!). Not only is

it fragile and breaks into a zillion pieces, but it also gets very hot.

I prefer the Professional for this reason (it's also easier to pull open

the Professional, where the Global model has a little piece that you

need to pop open first). Hadley has been involved with the maintenance

of the aids from a young age, and it's nice to have the separate

compartments for the left and right aids and molds for the visual

reminder of which mold goes with which aid (Professional has the brick

in the middle of the unit, creating two areas for the molds; Global has

one large area). We regularly dry two sets of aids in the Professional

each night with no space problems (Hadley has a set of waterproof aids

that live in the Dry & Store when she is not wearing them).

We do have a Global unit that I purchased for use at my parents' house

(Hadley is a frequent overnight visitor, and usually uses her waterproof

aids there at the beach, so they really benefit by getting in the dryer

right away). I've not noticed any difference in dryer quality, just

those little things that make the product more user friendly for the

littler ones.

Having one of each, I'd agree with Kerry that the Dry and Store

professional just seems to be made better. All of the parts (the

lightbulb, etc.) are hidden whereas with the Global it's visible when

you open it. It also makes the top heavy so when we open the door for

the Global, the whole unit falls backwards. I will say though for Tom's

implant it's been good because the Global's one compartment is bigger

and accommodates the implant better. The Professional does hold two

sets of hearing aids easily.

That would be me that dropped my MP3 in the toilet (blush.)

The global has a larger cavity than the professional model. We bought a D & S

global to have sufficient space for large FM system components.

One night I was listening to my MP3 player and had to use the bathroom. I stuck

it in my pocket against my better judgement, but I figured " what could it hurt

this one time? " Yeah, right. I caught the headphone wire with my hand, pulling

the MP3 out of my pocket, and sending it for a dip in the toilet.

I evicted the boys' hearing aids and ran it through drying cycles that night and

the next day. It still works fine.

I agree. The lid on the global model is heavy, either tipping the unit

backwards or slamming shut unexpectedly. The professional model has a nicer

feel when using it. But the global model is perfect for our needs of drying FM

components, and our boys are old enough (13 and 10) to take some care when using

it.

Last week Ian dropped his MP3 as he ran to the bus. Luckily I didn't drive

over it as I came and went that day. Later when he got off the bus he found it

-- lying in a puddle, where it had been all day. Completely drenched inside

and out. He immediately popped out the batteries -- hoping to avoid shorting

it out, crossed his fingers and put it in to dry out. The Dry-n-Store worked

another miracle. Very useful lil gadget!
