Welcome ,

I've been on this WOE for almost 2 months and I've stuck it out with help from

this group. It's actually becoming pretty easy to plan meals now that I've

gotten the hang of things. I don't post much, but I read a lot:-). I also have

two boys, mine are 5 and 9. I could really relate to what you said about the

mirrors at home are from the shoulders up. Maybe when I reach my goal I'll get

a full length mirror.

About the salad dressing. I've always made my own vinagrette with fresh garlic,

salt, pepper, mustard powder, balsamic vinegar, olive oil and fresh basil.

Since I've been on this WOE I've cut back on the balsamic vinegar (has carbs)

and use wine vinegar instead. I have also found that Newman's Own Olive oil and

vinegar dressing is a great substitute for homemade (I sometimes add a little

bit of balsamic vinegar to the whole bottle, I still do love the stuff).

Congratulations on making the commitment to a new WOE. I know exactly

what you mean about high school pictures. I too was called fat when I

weighed about 140 (and I'm only 5'4 " ), but I was really a good size.

I was very athletic in those days. But since I wasn't ultra-thin,

like Twiggy, I was fat.

Meal can be tough, especially with kids. You might want to try very

simple meals until you have the hang of this WOE. A simple meat dish -

grilled chicken, hamburgers, sausage, hot dogs (some kosher brands

have no of very few carbs -, a LC cooked veggie with butter or a bit

of cheese (broccoli, cauliflower, green beans, cabbage) as a base.

Add a high fiber carb for the kinds - whole wheat pasta, black beans,

whole wheat bread sticks or the like - and a small salad for

yourself. If you eat dessert, SF jello with whippedcream for you,

whatever they like for the kids. THat should make dinner at home

simpler.

Hmmm, my bottle of balsamic vinegar lists 2 carbs per Tablespoon. Possibly the

carb count can vary between brands? I also have " The Complete book of Food

Counts " which lists all vinegar except for balsamic as 0 carbs per Tablespoon,

and balsamic at 2 per tablespoon.

Does anyone know why there is a discrepancy about the carb count for vinegar?

I would trust the label, as they know if there are additives that have

raised the carb count. I think balsamic vinegar is made from grapes, which

makes it naturally sweeter?

My book shows quite a bit of variation in carbs for vinegar by brand/flavor.

There are many that say 0g per tbsp, but a few are up to 2g per tbsp, and

one is 4g per tbsp.

have my consultation

next month. I've received the paperwork and have it ready.

I've talked with a

lot of people that have my Dr. and I already feel

comfortable with him. :) I

definitely have my mind made up on having the surgery.

welcome to the group. You will get alot of support and ideas from the

group and lots of conversation. I also have 100 lbs. to take off and know it

will

be a long while but am taking one day at a time and actually one meal at a

time. Am journaling and feeling good about my self. This is only my 3rd week On

Program, have to say I've joined a number of times, but this time it feels

right to me.

Hi Cindi; A hearty BIG welcome Cindi. I " m looking forward to your shared

recipes, and more news about the Core Plan as you work through it. I eat the

Core foods, just can't stop and let go of using my points to decide how much of

a thing I should have. So far it is working for me this way... but maybe I can

be 100% on Core a little later. I have been on the Flex plan since March 1st,

and have lost 34 pounds.

I am pretty much of a health food nut myself, so many of these Core List foods

are not foreign to me.

I hope you enjoy being a part of this group. They are very dedicated people who

are very willing to help, and support in every way. I have learned much from

their posts.

Intro

Hi All,

I am new to this group, and would like to introduce myself.

I am Cindi, from the mountain community of Flagstaff, Arizona. I just

recently rejoined WW, for the zillionth time. I am an emotional

eater/dieter, and the last few years have been emotionally rough, so my

weight zoomed back up, almost to my all-time high of 187. Thank God I found

my desire for health again and weighed in this time at 183. My current

" empowering thought " is " Mom needs to take care of herself before she can

fully care for everyone else's needs. "

I LOVE the Core Program. I am turning into a health food nut, and thoroughly

enjoying it. The first week, I ate fresh, ripe peaches till they were coming

out my ears, and loved it. I've also been trying out new foods and

ingredients for the last few weeks and have found that some things are not

nearly as hard a switch as I had thought, like non-fat sour cream & brown

rice. (I am still holding out on non-fat hard cheeses. If someone finds a

tasty one, I'd love to hear about it.) I have also discovered many new

foods, or, in some cases rediscovered, such as 7-grain hot cereal and

homemade tabouli, with virtually unlimited mix-ins. I hope to share some of

my recipes with the group, and to hear about some interesting discoveries.

Even though my WW leader likes to chant " If it ain't on the list, it ain't a

Core Food, " I still think some things are open to interpretation. I have

picked up a brown rice pasta, and think it counts as brown rice (limit

once/day) since that's all that's in the ingredients. Would you agree?

Here's a tough one: my homemade beef jerky, made with very lean round steak,

soy sauce, lemon pepper and garlic salt - all on the list. Okay, I know I've

departed from the category of Health food here. It is so yummy, but in my

heart of hearts, I know it is too salty to be a core food. What do you

think?

Anyway, I think I am going to enjoy being a part of this group.

Hello,

I just joined this list. I lost 40 lbs.

three years ago following mostly WW, which

I've mostly kept off. I still have another

35 pounds to go and want to lose it by next

summer. My DH lost 35 pounds this past

spring and summer by following WW online.

I haven't signed up for WW online yet, but

probably will. I'm curious about Flex and

Core -- what is the difference? Also, when

DH signed up for WW I was able to find him

a discount code online for $10.00 off the

three month program, but now can't find it.

Does anyone know of any links to coupons or

discount codes for WW online?

One last question, there was a really good

article on-line somewhere about the importance

of drinking water during weight loss (written

by an MD, ?). I read about it on one

of the weight loss listservs I belonged to

at the time, but now I can't find the article.

Does anyone know of it or know of another

good one?

Jim,

The metformin is being used along with diet (carb counting) and increased

exercise. I have lost eight pounds and feel better than I have for a long

time. If necessary, I will request an appointment with the diabetes specialist

in their practice, but right now I am satisfied with my family practice md.

Thanks for your concern. Since I have known I was diabetic since January, I

think the doctor is trying to control it so I don't have any complications.
