Kori,

I didn't realize that you normally did the other shoe first. We are going

directly in to the shoe as well - I'm waiting for them to arrive by

mail. Since was severe atypical bl, Dr. Ponseti and our Ortho have

consulted several times including at the recent conference, and since I pushed

for them, they are coming. I guess I'm one of the lucky ones! Now I only wish

insurance would pay for them.

wow Bridget! Welcome and congrats on the birth of your daughter! I think

you may be one of the first if not the first to go directly into the

brace. So you're going to have to tell us! hehe... no - it

should be set up fine if you've been to Iowa. I would have to say that

maybe at first, give her a little time to get used to not having casts

on. Maybe a couple of hours? Don't rub her skin too much - but maybe a

little lotion (good kind - no alcohol) on her skin. Then go to the

brace. I doubt you'll have problems with it but you want to make sure he

feet are all the way down in it - heels down 100% so she gets the right

kind of dorsiflexion. Also you'll want to show her how to move her legs

together. And when she sleeps she might like a pillow under her

legs. Also, just for ease of putting it on take the shoes off the bar, put

them on her feet and then attach them to the bar. It's just not so easy to

finagle the brace on when it's attached to the bar at first. Later you'll

be better at it - but for now just make it easy on yourself and take them

off the bar.

I don't know what your mornings are like but since it's so difficult to

change clothes with the brace on (sometimes you can slip the feet through

pants with the shoes on - take them off the bar) I usually dress Darbi for

the next day the night before. She wore a lot of stretch pants and

onesies. This winter it was a snap shirt (turtleneck/long sleeve) and

tights. Most the day and at night. But it is easier when you don't have

to re-dress baby in the mornings I think.

hummm... dunno what else to offer. I imagine you'll have a nice easy time

with this. I am anxious to see if it's as smooth as I hope with the new

shoes.

oh blech :~{ I liked being able to do that. For multiple reasons - mostly

getting pants off Darbs. I don't care for a lot of snap things for her and

I was given a ton of those stretch pants so she wore those a lot. And

putting her in a shopping cart or in the jumper. I wonder if he's going to

modify it to let them come off someday?
