Guest guest
Hi all.. I too have tried the atkins and I like them..just wish they were a little cheaper...geez..anyway I dont eat/drink chocolate so the only flavors I have available was vanilla and strawberry..I prefer the strawberry but the vanilla is okay..but what I like to do for a change is add some leftover instant coffee to the vanilla shake mix and make a version of the frapaccino...really good I think...I also have the optimax protein powder (son is varsity football player and it really is for him when he lifts weights) and that is good too..but there are tons out there..just read the labels..some have as much as 32 carbs per serving...geez! just my 2 cents for what it is worth! Guest guest
Junelle, I've only tried the Atkins shake mix. I first got the cappuccino because they were out of the chocolate. I made it in a blender with 1 tbs. heavy cream and ice cubes blended up. When I ran out I bought the chocolate and guess what? I like the cappuccino better! I have to add davinci syrup to the chocolate for it to taste good to me. I got my shake mix at a local grocery store, Fred Meyer (Kroger). -- Kristn 257/231/230(mini)/145 Started 8/5/2001 On Monday, October 15, 2001 10:52 AM, WOOD,JUNEL wrote: >I am getting ready to purchase protein shakes but haven't got a clue about >them. Kristn, why do you add heavy cream to the Atkins cappuccino shake? I just put the mix in cold water, add ice cubes and blend. Tastes SO freaking YUMMY...I like it WAY better then the Starbucks Frapuccino. the Keto brand of cappuccino is even more YUMMY (and mixes WAY easier than the Atkins brand of protein shakes)! Guest guest
EAS has two basic product lines - regular and low carb. They also have two different brand names - Myoplex and AdvantEdge. It works like this EAS Myoplex - regular shakes and bars, sold by fitness/specialty stores (bricks and clicks) and EAS directly on-line EAS Myoplex Low Carb - low carb shakes and bars, sold in same places as regular Myoplex EAS AdvantEdge - regular shakes and bars (same as Myoplex, as far as I can tell), sold in Walmart and other mass-marketers EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control - low carb shakes and bars (same as Myoplex Low Carb), also sold in Walmart and other mass-marketers. Other than price (higher for the " specialty " product, I haven't seen any difference. Buy them at Walmart if you can as " EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control " . > I agree these shakes are pretty good. Guest guest
EAS Myoplex is expensive, even in the States. The cheapest I've seen the low carb versions is about $2/bar, bought by the case, and $2.50/serving (for the shake) bought in the 20 serving size. The regular tends to be cheaper. When I buy EAS products, I get them at Walmart, since they run 30-50% less than the sale prices of other stores. > > EAS has two basic product lines - regular and low carb. I know that mixing your protein with water might not sound appealing but it does grow on you. I use ice cold water and crushed ice from my dispenser and that helps a bunch. Guest guest
---I hear some people suggest NOT making the shakes with milk and others say it's fine. I always make mine with milk. Well, I was using orange juice but it was so good I was having 2 a day and my stomache started burning when I'd drink or eat ANYTHING. So, I'm back to skim milk. I tried it with water, but it just wasn't good enough for me to force myself to drink it. With milk I love it. Is this not advisable? If not, I'll just have to not have it at all. Guest guest
Hi Lynn and welcome! My doctor forbids milk postop. He says we will probably become lactose intolerant postop, and he was RIGHT. He says " milk is for babies " and that it is given to babies to make fat. LOL. I haven't drank milk in SEVEN years (surgery was 12/27/95) and I haven't missed it at all. I do, however, use some half-half sometimes when out to dinner (rare occasions) in my coffee. Otherwise, I don't do milk - which also includes no ice cream. I limit sugar to single digit (i.e., less than 10 grams per serving) as I absorb 100% sugar intake. That includes fruit too, which I have a hard time with. Makes me gassy and stinky, and bloated. I focus on getting in 5-7 protein shakes a day of 30 g each, although there are some days I get so busy I'm only getting in 3 or 4 (slap me). I'm a distal RNY having a 50 inch common channel (the place where nutrients are absorbed) thus I don't absorb as much as a proximal (longer common channel with more time to absorb nutrients). I have been very successful except for getting into severe anemia and protein malnutrition for which I was off work for 15 weeks (I wasn't being a " good girl and taking my supplements). I'm now on IV iron and IV vitamins once a week (was three times a week). I would stay away from sugar, drink protein shakes, make them with water and ice, and if you like use some nondairy creamer to make them creamier. Milk is very high in sugar content, and really, you don't need the extra sugar if you want to be successful. Go for three protein shakes a day - you will find that you aren't as hungry, don't crave carbs and sweets, and will be very successful. Take care, B Distal RNY 12/27/95 275/152 - Folsom, CA Formerly Tacoma, WA
Guest guest
I have never mixed mine with milk, Milk adds more calories and more sugar. One way I have found to make them taste better is to mix them with flavored water (Fruit2O) or crystal light. I also add ice and blend it til it is rich and creamy. I know lots of people don't like it thick, if you don't just leave the ice out and shake it! Guest guest
Milk & real juice are just sugar. Lots of sugar. So, they sorta turn your weight loser into a weight gainer. If you can wean down from milk, you'll be glad later. You know, like 3/4C moo to 1/4 water and gradually increase the water, decrease the milk til you can leave it out completely Thanks, Vitalady, Inc. Guest guest
---Jeanne,it has stalled now. Maybe that's why. Well, no, come to think of it, it's probably been a week or more since I had a shake, (now that I think about it) and possibly a week before that also. I don't get it, I thought non-dairy creamer was mostly sugar? I've been on clear liquids today for a colonoscopy tomorrow, so I haven't been able to try one with water. I'll try it again tomorrow after I get home from the hospital. The one I tried with water, though, just turned too solid, there was no way to drink it. Maybe I had too much ice or not enough water.
