Guest guest
Sandy: No, but you can bet I'll be calling my gyn on Monday to ask about it : ) I had a Tubal, D & C, and Hysteroscopy done in July - for periods that were 2wks on/ 2wks off (grr) my SNLB and Lumpectomy were added in after I flunked my mammo (I figured if I was going to feel like dirt, I should be sure to do it properly - ha!). Anyway, ended up going back the next week for a mastectomy so it messed up my follow up appt. Thanks for the info (I am on my 2nd period this month and it polished off my white cell count as it came during nadir - I got a Neupogen shot yesterday, and I get to have another on Monday - oh goodie : ) Thanks for the info!!! - Jen On Fri, 29 Sep 2006 22:38:07 -0000 " Winter " writes: > hey, > First, are you getting a shot to shut your ovaries down?? Guest guest
Marisa: Because Neulasta can't be given this close to a chemo treatment - I'd have to postpone (and I'd REALLY rather just get it over with, ya know? : ) I can get the 2 Neupogens which will do the same thing without messing up my treatment schedule. I had strep throat the end of last week - woke up feeling blech Friday...called my onc and he gave me some antibiotics and one shot Friday, a second Monday. I'm thinking it's a one-two punch deal to make sure I'm definitely up and ready for round two of A/C on Thursday. (I already got my cookies...don't wanna miss my kool aid!) - Jen : ) On Sun, 1 Oct 2006 11:57:06 -0700 (PDT) Marisa Steffers writes: > jen - why dont you get neulasta? just one shot... > > marisa > > > Thanks for the info (I am on my 2nd period this > > month and > > it polished off my white cell count as it came > > during nadir - > > I got a Neupogen shot yesterday, and I get to have > > another > > on Monday - oh goodie : ) Thanks for the info!!! > > > > - Jen > > > __________________________________________________ >
Guest guest
oh... I gave myself the neulasta shot the day after a/c...just one shot-was a bi*ch getting my insurance to cover it - they would cover it ^if^ i went into the chemo suite the following day to have a nurse administer, but got their panties in a twist when I wanted to give it to myself...anyway, got over that hurdle - but the co-pay was $60. on another note, I just finished my 5th round of taxotere/herceptin...and I have to say, this has been rough...first, Jude and I both have colds - but beyond that, I've been suffering - not from the taxotere, but from the dexamethasone (the steriod that prevents edema)...I take (took, actually) 10mgs the night before, p.o., and 10 mg via the port right before chemo starts...when I leave the suite i FELL GREAT! Like I want to paint the house--by sunday (i go in on frdays), I'm in a puddle on the floor--and I was raging, and yelling at my son, and my mood had been ALL OVER THE MAP...I thought I was going crazy. I thought it was menapause--but it was getting progressively worse. I reached a point last tuesday night where I thought " i cant do this anymore " (and believe me, I can bear and tolerate ALOT - but I satyed in the bathroom till I felt myself/made mayself calm down...)...I talked to my BIL (he's an onc.) the first thiing he asked was " how much dex. are you getting? " when I told him, he said " oh, marisa, that's alot - I dont give my pts. that much when they come in every week...steroids are powerful drugs... " . SO i called the chemo nurse on wednesday - and we cut my dose in half. Still having mood swings, but not so severe; not so g-dam scary. I had no idea that ^that^b was a side effectc to expect...and I gotta say, as a single mother, with no family here, it scared the sh!t out of me... marisa --- jbuzzard@... wrote: > Marisa: > Because Neulasta can't be given this close to > a chemo treatment - I'd have to postpone (and I'd > REALLY rather just get it over with, ya know? : ) I > can get the 2 Neupogens which will do the same > thing without messing up my treatment schedule. > I had strep throat the end of last week - woke > up feeling blech Friday...called my onc and he > gave me some antibiotics and one shot Friday, > a second Monday. Guest guest
Ellen, I was told that the Neulasta had to be 24 hours after chemo. I always went in the day after chemo for it. Neupogen, I'm not sure about timing, but I know they need to be given every day. When I was in the hospital I got that as IV drip, once a day, because insurance would not pay for the Neulasta (at $5000 a pop, I'm not surprised). Barb R. Michigan Re: Felonious Follicles Hi Jen - How come you can't have the Neulasta right after chemo. I had four treatments of that and they were given the day after chemo. I had a nurse come to my housee to poke me so I wouldn't have to travel into Boston to do it. Curious?? Guest guest
I've been very blessed with good insurance. This journey has cost me little out of pocket. Like you, I'm not sure what people without insurance do. BC is bad enough, many have conditions that are worse. Like I said, I am blessed.... Barb R. Michigan Re: Felonious Follicles Yeah Barb, Me too. I got my Neulasta the next day after chemo treatments, 24 hours after. My pharmacist showed me their bill for the Neulasta shots (which I had to send away for from my insurance company directly) and it was almost $5,000 each. Thankfully, my co- pay was only $50. What would people do who did not have insurance - not get the shot I guess - sad situation. Guest guest
it's ridiculous, isn't it - one shot costing that much! part of the problem (and I know that's it's multi-faceted) is that the medicare folks aren't required to negotiate their prices. marisa --- Ellen wrote: > Yeah Barb, Me too.
