Guest guest
Hello a, I had a port put in on 10/12/06 and I did not think I was going to be in so much pain from it. Its been 10 days and I do feel better but I'm still sore in that area. At times I feel like its tightening up and my arm hurts too. I would suggest you call your Dr and hopefully get some peace of mind. I've been told it takes time. Hope you feel better! Irma --- manzanita339 wrote: > I had a porta cath put in on Thursday. Guest guest
Hi; I also have a port a cath. The pain was incredible. The mastectomy was a walk in the park compared to the port a cath insertion. It took a good three weeks for the pain to completely go away in my case. Guest guest
That's too bad it was painful. Mine was more uncomfortable than painful. It took several weeks to get use to it. I had a mastecomy and port insertion at the same operation, and I agree the port was hard to deal with than the mastectomy. I am so glad I have it because my veins have always been hard to find. Mine port was placed in my upper chest. Was yours placed in your arm? -

Guest guest
Hi Irma, Does everyone need a porta cath? I am booked for my first chemo treatment on Thursday and I'm not really sure what to expect, sounds like a lot of possible side effects. but do you recommend the portacath? thanks for the welcome by the way > >Reply-To: breastcancer2 >To: breastcancer2 >Subject: Re: porta cath questions >Date: Sat, 21 Oct 2006 12:14:10 -0700 (PDT) > >Hello a, > >I had a port put in on 10/12/06 and I did not think I >was going to be in so much pain from it. Guest guest
Hi , The Dr suggested a port because he says that it will be easier on my veins. My port is going to be used for Chemo and also for the Herceptin I will be on. He also said blood work can be done through the port as well. I have spoken to several people that have a port and they said it was the best decision during treatment. I had the port inserted during my surgery and yes the recovery has been painful and I am still sore but I believe it will be worth it. Good Luck on Thursday. --- Esser wrote: > Hi Irma, > Does everyone need a porta cath? Guest guest
Hi . I am on my 4th portocath, first one I had a punctured lung which healed within the week but I was cross because I had booked a trip away and I couldn't fly until after 14 days of the lung puncture being resolved and lost some of my airfare cost!!! Not insured for cancellation but transfered the flight. Most airlines have the same policy by the way. I would not be without my port. Never ever worried about needles before until cancer and all the tests and endless nurses trying to get into a vein. As always, excellent veins on the side that can't be used but one day after 7 nurses and about 11 needle sticks and tears running down my face, a needle then in, only for the vein to collapse and had to have my foot cannulated. Not to be advised under any circumstances ~ that was horrendous. I have been taught how to flush my own port so if i can't get to the hospital 2 and a half hours away I can flush it myself. (My local smaller hospital has no-one trained to flush/access ports) Simply wouldn't be without it~ love it and if you are particularly sensitive you can have a local anaesthetic cream on but needs to be on for about half an hour beforehand ~ I don't bother with the cream. They are one of the best inventions of the century! Hope yours does well for you. LOL Velvet Esser wrote: Hi Irma, Does everyone need a porta cath? Guest guest
, I had a groshong catheter placed in my chest for chemo treatments. It was incredibly painful from the get-go. It was constantly infected and hurt the entire time. The first day after placement the pain was excrutiating and my doc gave me a prescription for a lidocaine patch to put on the site.... got some relief from that... at least made it bearable. > > I had a porta cath put in on Thursday. Guest guest
I've heard horror stories about porta caths - I never had a problem with mine, other than the fact that I hate having this thing in my chest. No problems, though. I am hoping that now that my mammogram (first one since all this happened) has come back as 'free and clear,' that I can FINALLY get this thing removed! --------------------------------- Talk is cheap.
