Guest guest
Hi Toni, I'm sorry to hear you are stuck in AF right now, and I couldn't imagine a week with symptomatic AF - a recent 3-day run was way too much for me. I hope you get back to NSR soon! Are you going to have (or have you had) a cardioversion? ** SNIP ** I am also probably chronic at this point since I'm > in day 103 of this current episode and frustrated and discouraged about it all > ... also highly symptomatic the past week or so, which makes it worse. I hope you get back to NSR soon! Are you going to have (or have you had) a cardioversion? ------------------------ Nope. I called and asked my internist about one around day 60 because I was feeling so badly, but she said since they don't hold anyway, what's the point? I reminded her it wasn't HER feeling so badly, but she's a great doctor so I didn't fight her on it. I've been off-and-on symptomatic for the past 103 days .... and it is horrible. Sometimes I just cry because I want to crawl out of my skin just to get some relief. Quality of life my ass! I can go to work though, so that's good. I'm not doing much else outside of working, so I don't much have a life right now. If this is how it's going to be from now on, I'm screwed. Guest guest
I'm not sure I'd take that answer from my doctor! If a cardioversion can keep you in NSR for even a week, then that's a week you can catch up on some much needed sleep, as well as perspective and a social outing or 2, before the next bout. You may trust her, but she doesn't live with your syptoms! > > Hi Toni, > > I'm sorry to hear you are stuck in AF right now, and I couldn't imagine > a week with symptomatic AF - a recent 3-day run was way too much for > me. You may trust her, but she doesn't live with your syptoms! -------------- I agree with you totally. And I even SAID she wasn't the one with squirrels in HER chest. The reason I let it slide is that the past several times I " ve gone to the ER for a cardioversion because I just couldn't stand it any longer, they wouldn't do it. So I'd lay there for five or six hours on a hard gurney watching my heart, and be sent home in the same condition. I'm in a Catch-22 .... they won't do it because my rate isn't high enough, but I'm on digoxin so my rate stays under 100. I even asked the doctor if I should just stop taking the digoxin so my rate would soar and I could be converted ... it's a no-win and I'm tired of fighting. It's one of the problems in having no EP and none available to me. So I treat myself and guess and hope for the best ... and don't have the energy to beg for a conversion I " m not sure they'd do anyway. Can you tell I'm discouraged? Guest guest
Maybe the tactic is wrong - I remember reading on this board about people whose doctors wouldn't go ahead with something, until the patient went in and DEMANDED whatever treatment...it's not until that point that the doctors realize just how serious they are. Don't beg for a conversion, demand one! Tell them you're not leaving the ER until they zap you or something...it's evident this run of AF is draining you mentally as well as physically, but don't let it drain your fight for quality of life - something EVERYONE is entitled to. If your doctor could read your posts, she might change her mind. Whatever you do Toni, I hope you get into NSR soon, and remember we're all here for ya! > > I'm not sure I'd take that answer from my doctor! Guest guest
Toni: I can relate with what you have been thru. These symptoms of afib are horrendous!! What you described about wanting to come out of your skin is so true!! I think I had afib for longer than I have known which is 18 months because I used to think it was anxiety or panic attacks. Now I know. These afib episodes are much worse. Have they prescribed any help for your anxiiety when these happen. They let me have .25 mg Xanas when I can't take it anymore. I only take them when I have too. But it does help until it passes some. Good luck to you...keep us informed..
