Hi , I will be changing from Tikosyn to flecainide next week. you

don't say whether the flecainide is keeping you out of afib. Is it? I

hope so! Good luck. Sandy

  • 3 weeks later...

AG,

I am taking Flecainide but have not had an increase in

nervousness or anxiety. I do have strange eye things

and even though it has made me go to NSR for the first

time in months, I do not feel as well as I normally do

in NSR - I just feel tired and a bit under water. MY

EP is going to monitor me for 48 hours since I am not

in NSR 100%.

So far, Flecainide works better than anything else.

I love Flecainide. It has helped me so much. When I began to take

Flecainide I was nervous period. I was scared that it was going to cause a

different kind of an arrhythmia and it didn't. It does give you a weird

taste in your mouth, can make your eyesight kind of weird for a few weeks.

But other than that, it's a very tolerable drug, way more so than any of the

other drugs I have taken.

Myself i have never had a problem with nervousness or anxiety with flecainide. I

think sometimes just the afib can make us this way. The only side effect i've

had is sometimes my vision is off a little, but i would take that anyday than

have the episodes i used too. Hope this helps. Rhoda

Hi, just thought I'd share my experience of the first time I was given

flecainide.

When I was admitted to hospital with my second long bout of a-fib, the doctor

I was under reccomended to me I be given an injection of flecainide, washed in

with saline solution, and it was to be given over 20 minutes and in three

injections. Carrying on with the " taste in the mouth " line, after every

injection, I felt a wave of something over my palate, like a coldness, which

passed very quickly, but came on and went quite quickly. This was not in the

least bit scary or worrying, but it is one of the main factors of my stay in

hospital that I remember, every injection brought on this palatial refresher.

I was prescribed flecainide 50mg after leaving hospital, and when taking one I

never again felt this feeling in my mouth. Flecainide never did a great deal to

help me I feel, as I still suffered with a-fib, and now take propranolol 80mg,

twice a day, and despite a few missed or strong beats, they have worked wonders.

Anyone else feel this strange feeling in their mouth? It might be rare, as

mentioned, mine came on with an injection of flecainide, not in tablet form.

Also. my heart returned to normal sinus rythmn after around 20-25 minutes, so I

don't believe flecainide, at least in my own cas was effective as it will have

been for other users of this group.

I like the results, as I'm going on 17 weeks NSR on flecainide, but my

vision with my contact lenses seems easily blurred. With my glasses

less so, which implies increased astigmatism with soft contacts.

50mg is not a lot. Hubby takes 150mg twice a day. Maybe 50mg was not a

theraputic amount and therefore not

helpful...hmm

Carlsone,

I am on 150mg of Flecainde 2X per day and have had few

side effects. I switched from Rythmol 325 2X because

the Rythmol stopped working - I was in AFIB all the

time.

I have had few side effects from the Flecainide -

visual wierdness is the main thing. I got rid of more

side effects than I got with the switch and am now in

NSR most of the time.

I feel more tired in NSR than I did before but had

been in solid AFIB since the failed PVI in September

-- so not sure if the Flecainde is the cause -- or I

am just tired. It could be a bit of depression from

either the Flecainide or the holidays. Will wait to

see how the tiredness goes before considering

switching.

Hello,

Many of us on this board take flecainide. It is considered a first-line

treatment for people without other heart problems (such as valve

leakage) or evidence of prior heart attack.

I have been on flecainide for 5 years, and consider it my wonder drug.

I am currently taking 150mg twice a day, and since going to this dose

have had only one AF episode in 2 years. Currently on a 10 month streak

of NSR. My only side effects were " visual disturbances " (dizziness if I

turned my head too fast), that lasted for about 2 weeks each time they

raised my dosage.

I am coming up on 3 months in NSR. I am on 100 mg twice a day with an

atenlol kicker. It gives me great hope to see you have been on it

successfully for the past 5 years.

How long did your AFIB episode last over the past two years?

I find Flec at high doses to tire me out. Not sleepy

tired or even physical tired...kind of a wierd malaise

that seems to hang over me since my dosage was

increased. I still go the gym. I do stuff. Just it

seems harder to get going. My friends say I am a big

quieter too. Wierd.

Bill,

Thank you for saying this -- I could not figure out

what was happening -- feeling so wierd - maybe

depressed / sad / underwater. Could be the Flecainide

but it is the only one that has worked in months and

even Flecainide stopped working about an hour ago.

Just went back into AFIB big time -- at least I am on

a halter monitor so it will be recorded.

I have tried to find the triggers but there is none -

nothing seems to cause this.
