Jo, I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Everyone reacts/heals

differently. Have you asked your surgeon about this? I'm sure others on

this list will have some recommendations for you but please don't think you

are doing anything wrong. I promise no matter how you feel now that in a

couple months you are going to be so happy you had the surgery. Hugs,

~Janet~

Dear Jo,

This is not normal.. How does water taste? I suggest .. and I will freely

admit very strongly.. that you call your doctor asap and get referred to

someone qualified to scope you..

Nausea is not fun, and even more not fun, and also can be serious if left

untreated are marginal ulcers. I speak from experience.. had a marginal

ulcer.. spent months of nausea/ vomiting.. and pain. If I had been scoped

earlier, my ulcer coulda been treated and wouldnt have perforated and caused

me intense pain .. nor would I have developed peritonitis which is life

threatening..

I am not trying to scare you.. but it is important to find out the cause of

your nausea.. it could be something as simple as a small stricture which can

easily be fixed while you are scoped..

Call the doctor.. you will feel better, and I will feel better.

Hugs,

from GA

Jo,

I was the queen of nausea! I had it almost continuously for the first 12

weeks. Have you spoken with your surgeon? Some people get it during the

first weeks after surgery while their pouches are healing. However there are

other reasons that you could be experiencing this (like an ulcer) so

*please* check with your doctor and see what he/she says. If it is just

healing it will pass. I felt exactly like you are feeling now. But once my

nausea passed and I started eating and drinking more things really turned

around. Hang in there. If you want to e-mail me please feel free to do so.

Jo, hon, it may be nothing that you've done. Has your surgeon been made aware

of how miserable you are? Have they done a scope on you? If they won't, find

one that will. You sound like you have something mechanically wrong in there

that needs to be fixed. You do not have to live your life miserably with this

surgery. Please get it checked out tomorrow. Take care.

Nausea, Nausea and more Nausea

I'm warning you now this is going to be a crabby post. I am so sick

of frigging nausea. I'm now 10 weeks out and I get nauseous from

almost everything I eat. If I eat only low fat proteins, I am OK.

No dairy, no grains, no carbs. Everytime I eat them, I'm nauseous.

I really wish I hadn't had this surgery. I know some people are so

happy to be losing weight that they don't care what they have to go

thru to lose it. I for one am not like that.

What am I doing wrong? I don't eat more than 1/4 cup at a time, I

wait between bites, I chew the heck out of everything and still

nausea. I take all my vitamins, I drink my water. WHAT AM DOING

WRONG. I don't have any energy either. I am crying as I write this.

Will I never be able to eat anything but protein again? If so, I've

made the biggest mistake of my life.

If anyone responds that you knew what you were getting yourself into,

I swear to goodness I will scream. I researched this surgery for TWO

YEARS. I asked every question I could think of. Yes, I did see that

some people had nausea occasionally but this is ridiculous.

I would greatly aprreciate some words of support and any advice you

can give.

Thanks for listening.

Jo I am sorry to hear you are having such difficulty. I wish for you to get

thru this trying time. I went thru somewhat that too. Not for that long

though. It lasted about 3 days, then went away, returned 2 weeks later for 4

days and have been fine since.

I am sure you will eventually get thru it. But I would suggest calling your

doctor dear. JUST TO BE SURE nothing is seriously wrong.

God bless you Jo.

OK, quiz time.

1. how much protein supplement are you getting in?

2. what kind & how do you make it up?

3. how does water taste?

4. when did it start to become miserable, like week 3, week 4?

5. what kind of vitamins, iron, calcium are you taking?

6. are you drinking milk?

7. how long after eating/drink (either?) does the nausea hit & how long does it

last?

MOST nausea is fixable. I was nauseated like you for 6 stinking months cuz the

PA in the office just blamed the victim. Different doc, dx in 2 minutes, fixed

in 3 days.

First off, I wanted to thank everyone who responded to my post. The

support we get here is superb.

I did finally get hold of my doctor. At first I talked to his nurse,

who referred me to the dietician. The dietician thinks I may be

eating too fast or too much. I've never thrown up which I thought

would happen if I ate too much. I usually can eat about 2-3 ounces.

I will try slowing down some more and see if that helps.

My doctor's nurse called me back because she told him I was having

problems and he said if what the dietician told me to do didn't work

that I need to come in for a scope.

I'm trying to stay mainly on liquids or soups with protein in them

right now. I must admit I'm not getting my all my protein in because

I just don't feel like eating due to the nausea.

When I get up in the morning, it's the worst. I so badly want a

drink of water and if I take more than a sip, here comes the nausea.

If I don't feel better my tomorrow, I'm going in for a scope.

Thanks for all the great responses.
