, My surgery was 11/8 and my nails are also splitting. My nails usually

grow long, I sure hope it hcanges soon. I take plenty of vitamins including

hair and nails. My hair is also falling out. I was told to expect this around

three months. They say it changes but I'm not sure when. Best of luck,

Ok, I can't speak from personal experience regarding weight loss surgery, but

I can respond as a professional manicurist! I have been doing nails for 17

years. It doesn't surprise me at all that your nails are suffering from your

new " diet " I can't really tell you what to do dietetically to resolve this. I

can give you a few ideas to help combat it though! Firstly, keep a

strengthener on them about 6 out of the 7 days a week(I highly recommend OPI

Nail Envy or Nailtiques. However, even Sally Hansen is better than nothing).

Make sure you wear gloves when you use any kind of chemicals (that especially

includes Windex) also, when you are washing dishes. Try to keep them filed

smooth. You might even want to treat yourself to a professional manicure,

even once or twice a month might help, the manicurist can help with getting

some of the weak layers off, without taking too much off. I have heard the

supplement " biotin " helps with hair and nails. Oh, on the 6th day, take the

nail polish off with non acetone nail polish remover and put some cuticle oil

on your nails and moisturize them with a good hand cream. then the next day,

reapply the polish, after washing your hands.

Hope this Helps,

- The only treatment I know of it to use a nail strengthner on them. I

know Avon sells one but you can probably also find with the nail polishes in the

store. They really do make your nails stronger while you're wearing the stuff.

Not sure how long it lasts after you take it off. Good luck.

Are you ladies getting enough protein in? Are you taking dry vitamin E and dry

vitamin A & D? If not, try adding these and see if it improves. Take care.

They are vitamin E, and vit. A & D in dry form. They are capsules that Vitalady

sells. I know I've seen dry E also at some of the large online retailers, too,

but don't know about the A/D. These dry forms are best for our absorbability.

What about Antioxidents(spelling?) which is A C and E together?

Those ok? I have been taking them for about a year now.

Doc said to continue if I want. Hmmmmmmmmm....100IU of E in them, 250mg of

C, and 12,500IU A 100% as Beta Carotene.

You know, I never thought about if these were good for me or not!

HELP?? Is it an ok vite for me?

Spooki - I would say you need 400 IU of dry vitamin E a day, and that

increases to 800 IU when we are like at menopause age, whether naturally or

unnatural from surgery. That's what I'd recommend, but Mom's the expert of

course. Take care.

Thanks Dawn. A lot of good info there! I almost always wear gloves when

cleaning or doing dishes. I know this is surgery related so I'm sure this

will pass but I really miss not being able to paint my nails. Oh, well, I

guess it's a small price to pay.
