answered. Where in IL are you? Please let me know if I can be of any

help!

-- Another Newbie

Hi Everyone-

Since everyone else has been introducing themselves, I thought that I would

too. My name is Dawn and I am 39 yrs old (will be 40 in June), married and I

have 2 girls (ages 10 & 13). My husband has been unemployed since June 2002

and I have been working 50+ hours at work to make ends meet. My BMI is 41

and I have high blood pressure, GERD, hiatial hernia, heel spur and

depression. I have been reading posts for about 4 months and enjoy reading

them. I have also gained a lot of info. I have received packets to fill out

from the surgeon and the pulmonmoligist. I have an appt on March 4th to meet

with the nurse practiitioner, dietician and surgeon and an appt with the

pulm

dr on March 11th. I'm hoping to have my psychiatrist write a letter stating

that I can handle the emotional aspects of surgery. I have been through a

lot emotional problems the past 2 yrs (done things I later regreted) and I

hope and PRAY that the psych will agree to the surgery. Like other newbies,

I have questions and I will probably be asking lots of them after I see the

surgeon. I'd like to have the surgery by the summer since I will be the BIG

40. My husband isn't too thrilled with the surgery and I haven't said

anything to the kids yet. I thought that I would wait to see if I get

approved before tell the girls. I know that this is the begining of a long

journey.

Hi Dawn from IL - I think I welcomed you before, but just in case that was

someone else, welcome. I am 39 also, gonna be 40 in August, and have 2 girls,

ages 14 and 9. Your hubby will come around. They are scared for us at first,

but when they see the success we have with this, they become more supportive.

Take care.

From one newbie to another:

I cannot be there in close physical proximity, but my spirit is there

with you as I am sure others are, too. It is amazing the number of

new people who find this fantastic support group.

I will remember you in my prayers. I recently read a book in the

Life 101 series that said a doctor told his patients to repeat and

believe the phrase " I am getting better every day in every way. " at

least once every day. I start my day with that phrase and a prayer

to God. Seems to at least be helping my attitude.

Bless you and keep going one step at a time.

Shari-

Welcome...tell your doctor about your " blues. " Do you know that 90% of us

are on antidepressant medication after diagnosis? There are many issues

obviously going on in your life right now, but there is no reason to feel blue

and

accept it. Tell your oncologist...he will recommend something to help you

through and bring you back to " Shari. "

I wish you lived closer, I'd give you a hug, but don't despair! We're all

here to get you back on track. You're a " sister " now, and alone is the

farthest thing you'll be with all of us!

Keep us advised on your progress after you speak with your doctor.

Hugs,
