Hi Holly; Welcome to the group. I know you'll like it here. It is a good group

of people dedicated to getting off the weight, and exercising a lot.

I used to work with a newspaper daily in my career. I was a Fashion Illustrator

first, and then, with lots of hard work, became an Advertising Manager of a

Women's Fashion Dept Store, and still worked with a newspaper daily. Really

loved my work. Retired quite a while ago, and became a Master Gardner. I am

primary advisor on gardening issues to our Grounds Chairman of our Association

in our subdivision. Sometimes a lot of hard physical work is associated with

this volunteer activity which suits me well.

We live out in the country, like you, at the edge of a city, and like it a lot.

I used to own a Black Lab, named Nicky, whom I adored. I see you have

three...they are wonderful dogs.

Sounds like you have your hands full with 2 teenagers. I remember those

days...mine were the same difference in age apart as yours. They keep one

hopping. There was NEVER a dull moment.

I like, and eat, the healthier foods on the Core Plan, as you are, but I still

need to journal my points. I exercise a lot, and am committed to the Presidents

Challenge for the long haul. I have won my Bronze medal, at the end of July with

20,000 points of exercise, and am just 481 points from getting my Silver Medal

(which I will make today) which requires 45,000 points. When I get it, I am

going for the Gold, which requires 90,000 points.The points on the Presidents

Challenge are a little different than those we get with Weight Watcher's

Activity. But you do the same things to get them...put in your hours, or

minutes, type of activity, and intensity, etc, and they assign points to you.

The Presidents Challenge has gone a long way to my being successful with Weight

Watchers. It keeps me focused. I found information about it right here on this

group. In fact, I believe they have a group formed, and have racked up some

serious points. It is an online organization formed by President Eisenhower many

years ago, and each president since has signed on. My Bronze Medal is signed by

President Bush on the back. Pretty cool. I am in the Presidents Champions

Newbie to Group

Hello All :-)

I'm really happy to have found your group!

I am an at-home WWer, and in need of some morale boosting

so I can continue my weight loss goals.

I am following the Flex Plan, but incorporating more of the

" Core-type/whole " foods in my daily eating. I like the idea of little

or no counting- I get too obsessed with the numbers.

Ok, a little bit about me.

I am 36, (37 next month), married to a fellow from Scotland, we

are raising two teens (17 & 14), have 3 Labradors, live in the

country, and currently residing in Oklahoma.

I work for a newspaper in the graphic design department, and I

tend to sit alot at my desk most of the time, so I have to make

myself get up early before work and get my exercise time then. I

really like Sansone's Walk Away the Pounds tapes, and I

also go to water aerobics and Pilates class two times a week!

Yikes!! *L*

Anyway, I'm finding myself getting bored, or maybe it's just stress

that is causing my straying from journaling and staying on

program all the time. I'm reaching more and more to Pop-Tarts,

Cheez-Its and other trigger foods. Ugh.

Alrighty, this is pretty long, so I think I'll wrap it up now.

Nice to meet you!

How cool- Fashion Illustrator, Ad Manager, AND now a Master Gardener!?!

Wow, now you have been one busy woman. Great work, and work-out I

would think.

I LOVE living in the country, except yesterday my husband killed a big snake

by our well-house. YIKES!!!

*LOL* Yup, three lovable, naughty and sweet Labs. I wouldn't know what to

do without them to be honest. My chocolate boy, Hamish, is my heart dog, an

85 pound lovey, lapdog. :-)

Teens... sometimes a joy to have in the house, and sometimes I wish that

they would lock themselves in their rooms. My son, , is going to

Oklahoma City this weekend to start his medical evaluation for the Navy. I

was really surprised that he chose the Navy since his biological father is in

the Army. Then again, maybe that is why he chose the Navy. *g*

Congratulations on your medals!!! What do you do for daily exercise to reach

your goals? Right now I'm just working on the first section- getting active at

least 30 minutes 5 days a week. However, in August I did finish my first 5k

walk/run, and it felt wonderful, even though I was the last person to cross the

finish line. I finished it, and that was my goal. (it took me 49 minutes to

walk

it)

Good for you for your first 5K!! Don't look at is as finishing last- you

finished, and finished WAY ahead of all the couch potatoes who never even got

out there or never even tried it. Congratulations!!

However, in August I did finish my first 5k

Hi Holly; So good to hear from you Holly; I do get some serious workouts in my

gardening activities, but I love it.

Yikes!!! is right about that snake your husband killed...a snake residing by

your house is not an option, I am sure, certainly not one for me. Glad your

husband found it, and he's no longer a threat to you and family. Even thought

that's always(snakes) a concern, I still love the fresh air, and country

living.

Some of the exercises I do to get points for the Presidents Challenge and Weight

Watcher Activity Points are:. of course gardening, of all kinds from serious

heavy work, to light weight work, stretching and firming exercises(they have

quite a bunch shown on their web site) aerobics, walking, weights, resistance

bands, active children's games with my 5 year old, 10 year old, and 13 year old

grandchildren, household tasks, like washing windows, vacuuming, washing the

car, home repair such as painting and repair, handball, stationary biking, tai

chi, and I wear my pedometer all day long to check out my amount of steps taken

daily. I am getting from 8000 to over 12,000 steps daily. It wasn't that way at

the beginning of my President's Challenge days. Getting Active was where I

started, and then, switched over to the President's Champions, because I was

more active then I thought, and arrived at my points sooner than 6 weeks, so

they switched me over, so I have my Active Lifestyle Award, my Bronze Medal, and

now my Silver Medal. I am so excited about this new way of life. I am now going

for the Gold. Wish me luck. When it's all said and done, I plan to sign up all

over again. It is such a motivator for me.

That¹s just about my way of thinking too! :-) Mind you, it was sort of odd

coming through the finish line/gate last... Everyone else was already

getting ready for the award ceremony.

Good grief, a copperhead, Holly! I came in contact with a copperhead back when I

was 17 and vacationing in East Texas, and a quick thinking young man dispatched

him for me. I was crawling through a fence on a nature walk with lots of teens

my own age,and a group Chaperone, and right there in front of me, was this huge

snake. Oh my gosh, I almost died right on the spot. The young friend behind me,

whipped out his pocket knife, told me not to move, and bye bye snake. Thank God

he was handy with a knife. Got him right in the head. We all talked about that

for days. They were all grateful it was me and not them. Of course that ended

the nature walk. Too much nature for everybody. Me, too! lol.

Congratulations Holly in winning that first Award!! It is a great motivator, and

fun getting there! You're the best. Keep up the good work, and you'll fly by me

Umm... Snakes... I¹m rather afraid of them, and when they are that close to

the house, I¹m a bit unnerved. (found out it was a copperhead)

You DO sound like a very busy woman, holy cow!

As for the Getting Active award, I found out yesterday that I was awarded my

first award. :-) I finished my first 6 weeks of regular exercise, and get

an award! What a great motivator.

Thanks for the encouragement, this is a fantastic group!
