Guest guest
Kassia, Our daughter had the ATTT with Dr. Ponseti & Dr. Morcuende in Iowa. No, they do not generally advise use of the FAB afterward, but of course discuss it with Dr. Dietz since it may vary with the severity or type of relapse. You would have to be careful of the rotation if you did decide to put him back in. They described the ATTT to us as a minor surgery that was great for older kids since casts and bar compliance usually do not work at this age. Sorry we didn't catch your post earlier, please ask any other questions & keep us posted. - & Emma Emma-- 18-10-99. Montreal, Canada moderately severe bilateral clubfoot 3 months unsuccessful local casting pending surgery corrected by Dr. Ponseti with 3 casts & tenotomy out of FAB too early, just before 2 yrs old (loose ligaments) relapse, ATTT at 4 years old, doing great. [Fwd: Re: Re: age of relapse] Hi all, I'm just resending this email since I don't know if it went thru the first time or not...that was a couple of weeks ago and I haven't heard anything back...not to nag or anything. *grin* Kassia mommy to 3/22/01 (Lt clubfoot, will have ATTT surg 4/27/04) and 11/22/02 --- Re: Re: age of relapse Date: Mon, 12 Apr 2004 10:24:59 -0500 To: nosurgery4clubfoot References: c5d74f+ikih (AT) eGroups (DOT) com> Ok...I'm trying to figure out what the " best " mode of treatment will be for Jake. According to what Dr Dietz said, when the child relapses at over 3 yrs of age, it's better to do the ATTT surgery. After reading 's link, Dr Ponseti agrees with this. My question is, after ATTT surgery, do the kids need the dbb anymore? According to Dr Ponseti's article in 's link, the child could still relapse after ATTT surg and need further surgeries. Obviously I'd like to avoid this possibility...so is it worth it to keep Jake in the dbb after his surgery? (of course he'd need new larger shoes and a longer bar...his current set-up is way to small for him now) I'll ask Dr Dietz at our pre-op appt in a couple weeks, but I was wondering if anyone here had any opinions. Thanks, Kassia mommy to 3/22/01 (Lt club foot, ATTT surg 4/27/04) and 11/22/
Guest guest
Hi Kassia, Emma is doing well, we are updating Drs. P and Morcuende with video on her progress. Her left foot is still showing some adduction, (her dorsiflexion has always been pretty good) but they say that we have to wait for her muscles to get strong and start pulling the foot back. I am a bit worried that they will want to do further surgery, and bizarre as it sounds I am almost willing to leave it as is even if they recommend it. Her right looks great, and the one inch scars are beginning to fade. Her feet are still " fat " , height-wise and it seems that will not change. It makes shoe selection a bit difficult. It's a great thing for you to have your mother there to help out. You will be needing all your time free to tend to Jake for at least the first 24 hours. I hope everything goes well tomorrow. Please let us know when you get the chance. good luck! - Re: [Fwd: Re: Re: age of relapse] Hi , thanks for your post! How is Emma doing? Has she needed any further treatments since her ATTT surgery? It sounds like your dr said basically the same thing as Dr Dietz told us (which makes sense since they work in the same office). Anyhow thanks again for your email, sorry to keep this so short but we're working on a tight schedule today (I have to drive out and pick up my mom, she's staying with us for the week to take care of while Jake has his surgery). Thanks again, Kassia mommy to 3/22/01 (Lt clubfoot, will have ATTT surg 4/27/04) and 11/22/
