Guest guest
Why am I constantly berated by other parents of HL children for choosing to have ITE for my daughter rather than BTE? Why do they feel the need to " inform " me of why my choice is wrong? Do they think I don't want what is best for my daughter? Do they think I am being vain about her wearing BTEs? I am sick and tired of other parents of HL children thinking they know it all and I'm just an idiot. Have they ever stopped to think that maybe the theory of having kids ONLY wear BTE is outdated? Maybe just maybe THEY are wrong is assuming that the old advice is the only advice. I seem to remember a time when it was OK to smoke during pregnancy..... Why do they assume that I am not willing to accept the financial obligations ITE will take? Why would my doctor be the head of one of the largest hospitals in my area audiology department if she wasn't reputable to some degree. If I recall correctly, SHE was the one that got an audiologist degree - not me. And also, doing research doesn't amount to the years the doctors spent in school. I am just fed up with EVERY single parent of a HL child that I come in contact with telling me that I'm doing this wrong!!! Who are they? We are all in the same boat but just maybe I chose to jump in the water and swim to shore rather than using the paddle. I am ticked off to a degree that you can't even know at this point. I talked to ANOTHER " parent advocate " this morning who just went on telling me that she NEEDS BTEs and that she doesn't understand why my doctor would suggest the ITEs. I am fed up with people questioning my abilities as not only a parent, but a parent of a hard of hearing child. FYI -- the count of people who agree with my vs. those that don't are 4 vs. the rest of the world. I'm getting angry. I'm sorry for the vent but sometimes I would like to scream! I want what is best for my daughter and by choice I choose ITEs.
