Our first night - trying to tough it out

Hi Everyone,

So, received his band this morning and all was well until

about an hour ago (9pm). I took it off to check for any red marks

and havent seen any, but he screams constantly when I put it back

on. My husband is travelling for business this week, so I am on my

own for this new adjustment to our lives. I ended up taking it off

for the moment and he is down for his first segment of night sleep.

He stopped screaming minutes after I took it off.

I think I will leave it off tonight and continue the 3-4 hour checks

through tomorrow. He napped in the car today with it no problem,

but was upright and it put less pressure on his head. He napped

twice here at home and it was after this that he started to

complain.

Any advice would be appreciated as well as support.

Thanks!

It may not hurt him (especially if no red marks) but it may just feel

different. Or maybe he can't get into his favorite sleep position

with it on. I would try to have him wear it at least part of the night

and increase until he's in it full time. Our ortho suggested we cold

put in on after she was asleep, but our daughter is a light sleeper.

If your son is not you could try this.

We ended up cosleeping, and my daughter did great so long as mommy was

there. Also the nanny found that she slept better in her stroller than

her crib, so she let her nap there for a while at first. Maybe because

she was at a slight angle.

Hi ! I think you did a very smart thing. One I wish I had

done when my son slept in his helmet the first night. He had

been wearing it for a few hours at a time for a couple of days just

fine, but on night #1 he did exactly what you described: screamed

constantly. I kept going to check on him and rock him (which I never

do), but he wouldn't stop screaming. Around midnight I turned the

light on and took the helmet off and didn't see any sore spots. That

is where I really wish I had done what you did: leave it off! Smart

smart Mama! Because I decided to put it back on, the extra pressure

laying down on an alrealy too tight area made a huge sore. I

describe it's size by telling people to imagine cutting a ping pong

ball in half and putting that on the back of a seven month old's

head! We had to leave the helmet off for a few days while that

healed and the orthotist shaved that spot on the helmet. We haven't

had any problems with that area since! So, I think you did the right

thing and if he's screaming, I would assume that it's hurting him and

call your ortho. The plagio is not going to dissappear overnight, so

there's no hurry. These babies are too precious! I wish I had done

what you did! Good job!
