Guest guest
Dose anyone use AFO's instead of the DBB? What is the difference? Why is one better than the other? We may be switching to the braces from cast at the end of the week and at the last appointment my doctor said that we would be going into AFO's. I was wondering if it is worth the fight to use the DBB instead of if they were similar. Thanks. and 1/30/04 in 5th set of cast

We just saw him today. After 7 castings, he did the tenotomy 4 weeks ago. He is going to wait 2 more weeks, then take the casts off and put Leah in AFOs and DBB. The DBB will be 23/7 for 3 months, then dropping to nights, while the AFOs will be pretty much full time the way we understand it. He said today the AFOs/DBB will be until she is at least 3. We've been very pleased with the results so far. It was amazing to watch Leah's feet straighten out each week. We had an interesting discussion with the AFO man today. Instead of requiring special shoes for the DBB, like Markell shoes etc, he says just about any shoe with a good sole will work. He'll show us how to adapt the shoes to work with the bar. Has anybody else heard of this, or tried it? He says he's had excellent results using this method. We're wondering if the AFOs make a difference, since they will be holding the heel in position. Guest guest
We use the afo's with the dbb. He wears the afos all the time and the dbb for 12 hours at night. I think the afos are a lot easier than the dbb, because they are just like shoes. He wears the dbb over the afos at night and he has had a full correction and has held it for three months. But I would not use the afos alone, but insist on at least having both, with the dbb at night. marilee with sean patrick bilateral cf 6months > >Reply-To: nosurgery4clubfoot >To: nosurgery4clubfoot >Subject: AFO vs DBB >Date: Tue, 16 Mar 2004 17:44:25 -0000 > >Dose anyone use AFO's instead of the DBB? Our appointment was rescheduled to tomorrow so I am waiting to see how her feet look. I am definitely going to get the DBB and if he is uncomfortable with that I will see what he thinks about combining the AFO's and the DBB. I don't know if I feel that her feet are over corrected enough. How can you tell? Thanks, and bilateral club feet 1/30/
