Guest guest
Hi, We have a 3 week old boy (Ben) with talipes in the left foot (detected at the 20 week scan). We live in Yorkshire (UK) and Ben's treatment started when he was 10 days old. There is a Ponsetti trained consultant very close to where we live (MR G V ) and we are now on the 3rd pot-we can notice a difference already! Mr looked at Ben's foot initially but the pots have so far been put on by his team of senior physiotherapists (all Ponsetti trained). The hospital have been using the Ponsetti method for the last 2 years and are seeing very good results, so we are told. Is there anyone else out there under the care of Mr and his team? Rich. Beverley,Yorkshire,UK.
Guest guest
Rich, As an American parent, I can't give you any info on the doctor you mentioned, but wanted to welcome you and say congratulations on the arrival of your little boy, Ben! I'm pleased to hear that things are going well so far. In case you aren't aware of it, there's a list of doctors at the U of Iowa site, and those located in the UK have been growing in number. There are, of course, some who might not be on the list yet. http://www.vh.org/pediatric/patient/orthopaedics/clubfeet/physicians.h tml I believe there are quite a few UK parents here, and no doubt they will post to you as well. Though you might not need it, there is a checklist, put together by parents, for other parents, to help them determine if the treatment their child is getting matches what would be expected in the full Ponseti method. You can find it at the following site: http://pages.ivillage.com/ponseti_links/ Hope it might be helpful. Best wishes for continued progress, and enjoy these early days.. and Claire > Hi, We have a 3 week old boy (Ben) with talipes in the left foot > (detected at the 20 week scan). Guest guest
and Claire, Thanks for your e-mail. The checklist was helpful in that our hospital's policy is for parents to remove the pot the night before, which is contrary to the advice given. I sent an e-mail to Naomi (who appears on the approved physicians list) and she confirmed that we shouldn't be removing the pot the night before as there will be some loss of position and Ben may require more plasters as a result. I will be speaking to the hospital about changing their policy, but in the meantime we will remove the next pot as late as possible (probably a couple hours before the appointment). Thanks once again, Rich. Re: Anyone under Mr (Yorkshire)?
