Guest guest
DebDog, I know that you are having a hard time getting used to the cane.....I know how you feel. When I was handed a cane the first time, it was right before my 27th birthday. The Physical Therapist I had handed the cane to me and said Happy Birthday, this will be your partner for the rest of your life. Now, considering I have always been self-concious about my apperience, that really didn't help it any! The only time I used the cane was when I had a doctor's appointment or Physical therapy.....when I knew that W/C was watching me. It took me a long time to get used to using the cane......until I fell and realized that if I used the cane, I wouldn't have fell. Now, I use it just about everywhere I go.....except for inside my house unless I really hurt and need it. I bought a walker last year.....and it's down in my basement. I thought that if I needed it if it got really icy and stuff, I'd have it instead of my cane.....but, thankfully I never needed it. This year though, might prove me wrong. You just need to start thinking that you need to use the cane for your health....screw what other people think. They don't have to live your life for you, so why should it matter what they think about you when they look at you? Just look at them and tell them that if they want to stare at you so much, then they can just stick that cane up their rears and deal with it!
