The cane I got for my 27th birthday I got from PT. All they did was had me put my arms down by my side, and then they adjusted the cane from there. Then, when I went and had to buy another one (forgot to take the one with me when going to Chicago, so had to buy one 2 hours from Chicago), I knew exactly how to measure myself to get it for the right height.

Buying the adjustable ones are the best way to do it.....in my opinion. If you get one that isn't adjustable, then you'd have to be measured with a measuring tape and everything.....like custom made.
