Hi All,

This was reported on a Seattle news station yesterday.

I don't think we should all start taking Celebrex but we might be in the

future!

A pill patients take twice a day could stop Thyroid cancer -- and it's a

medication already on the market.

It's a popular drug that relieves arthritis pain for millions of people.

Now scientists are hopeful Celebrex will target and kill thyroid cancer

cells. If it works, it will become a new treatment for patients who are out of

options.

Debbie Phelps has battled thyroid cancer for ten years. Radiation treatments,

chemotherapy -- even a cutting edge vaccine haven't held her disease in

check.

Now, she's participating in a clinical trial, taking the arthritis drug

Celebrex. Researchers hope this low-tech approach will give her the ammunition

she

desperately needs to fight the cancer.

" It's not only simple because they can take the drug at home at their own

convenience, but also it's safe, " said Dr. Manisha Sha, an oncologist.

Researchers are trying Celebrex because it works by blocking a certain

enzyme. Coincidentally, cancer cells need the enzyme in order to survive. They

hope

the drug will eventually starve the cancer cells.
