If you can afford it (and it is expensive) and you have genetic diseases in your family, it is a fantastic idea. I have a nephew that has major heart problems. The research they are doing now on cord blood could very well cure his problem. We are going to bank our baby's cord blood in hopes that the FDA will approve some of the things they are doing with cord blood in the future. Who knows... it may help him, our own baby, or even my husband or I in the future. Is it worth the risk? The only risk is losing money, and is money that important compared to health? Do some research... many of the cord bank places will be more than happy to answer any questions without obligation.
