Guest guest
Hi all. My daughter Cassidy and I went to the DOC facility today and were told that Cass has a score of 21mm, and that she would wear a band for 2-3months. Is this a realistic span of time? If any of you had scores like this, could you tell me about your experiences? I want to be prepared for the reality of the band, and to know what to expect. Thanks! le
Guest guest
They are usually good about predicting time in the band but it all depends on Cassidy's age and growth spurts while in the band. > > > > Hi all. Guest guest
Hi le, How old is your daughter? Growth depends greatly on the age of the baby, and correction is dependent on growth. My son started at 21mm as well--he was banded at 3.5 mos old and grew at a remarkable rate, going from 21mm to 7mm in just 6 weeks. My daughter was banded at 4.5mos of age and went from 20mm to 10mm in 10 weeks. Both of them outgrew their bands at that point and got second bands. Getting an additional DOCband is up to you, but many very severe cases (which 21mm is) do require second bands to get within normal measurements (under 5mm). I do think 2-3 months is a realistic time frame if your baby is young. Just keep in mind that sometimes the more severe cases do require additional bands. My son will probably end up out of both bands w/in three months of total treatment time (we took a break between bands). My daughter wore her two bands a total of about 24 weeks, she just didn't grow as fast. Both had phenomenal correction though, worth every week for sure! Since you are at basically the same starting point of asymmetry w/your Cassidy, you may enjoy checking out my kids' progress pics on their website below. Good luck! , mom to Hannah (4yrs, DOCgrad) and Jack (6mos, DOCband #2 8/1) http://hannahsnoggin.typepad.com > > Hi all. Guest guest
Hi le, That seems like a very short time for 21mm, my son had 12mm and he wore his helmet for a little over 4 mths. How old is your daughter? My son did wear a Starband however so maybe the Doc band works faster? Mother to , Starbanded 1/11/07-5/23/07dln92130 <dln92130@...> wrote: Hi all. Guest guest
HI: My daughter was in her Starband for 4 months (just graduated yesterday!!) with 16mm asymmetry at the beginning . 2 to 3 months seems a bit short to me, but it will really depend on your child’s growth spurts while in the band. We saw great correction the first two months and very little improvement the last two months. She finished with 8mm of asym. If your child is younger, say 4 to 6 months, you could see quick correction. Older babies can take a little longer b/c their heads aren’t growing quite as fast. Hope that helps. Guest guest
I dont know, they told us my son would wear it for 3-4 months before he outgrows it and they are thinking they may be able to get him down to about an 8 mm in that time and he is a 15 now so I would agree that at 21 you would think he would need a 2nd. But I asked age thinking maybe he was younger so would get better correction that JOey On 8/7/07, Walsh <kew1976@...> wrote: Hi le, That seems like a very short time for 21mm, my son had 12mm and he wore his helmet for a little over 4 mths. Guest guest
Thank you everyone for your responses. Cassidy is currently 5 mos old., w/ 21 mm asymmetry. The DOC people never even mentioned the possibility of a second band to us. When do they usually bring that up? le

Guest guest
I am still new to the world of JRA, but it sounds like you're en route to see a wonderful doctor. I hope that the visit goes well and your daughter gets some relief soon! Sharon (, systemic, 16 months old) > > Wish us luck everyone.
