Orthotist Experience

I am new to the group and received the diagnosis that my daughter is

at the threshold for Plagio (10mm). My wife and I had predetermined

that we would move forward with treatment even before seeing the

Doctor if indeed she needed it. We live just outside of Sacramento

and had to go to Santa Clara to see the specialist from Kaiser.

Luckily we were able to go to the Orthotist (Trish at CIRS) in

Oakland the same day as our Doctor's appointment so we had Ainsley

scanned for a STARband that afternoon. We are still very

comfortable with our decision to band but now that I have had more

time to research it sounds like the expertise of the Orthotist is

the key to success.

Has anyone out there had their child treated by Trish/CIRS in

Oakland? I am not looking to slander neither Trish nor CIRS here,

more or less a " thumbs up " or " thumbs down " . However, if you would

like to provide more detailed information please feel free to e-mail

me directly.

Thank you in advance for your reply and Happy New Year!

Hi Dean

I will be going to Santa Clara Kaiser for our 1st visit and class on

Jan 24th. How was it? I am very nervous about banding or not. Our 4

month old soon has mild plagio but we have decided to look more into

it and go with it. I am very anxious to hear how the visit went with

you.

Thanks

We saw Dr. Menard at Kaiser in Santa Clara last March and I can't say enough

good things about him! We had seen Dr. Le in Richmond originally and then

we went to see Dr. Menard for a second opinion the difference between the

two was night and day. Dr. Menard took measurements and explained to us

that while our measurements were on the borderline of mild/moderate (10mm at

the time), given our son's torticollis it wasn't bound to get any better on

it's own since despite our repo efforts he was still sleeping on his flat

side. I also liked his viewpoint that what rounding out Mother Nature might

take to accomplish in 2-3 years could easily be taken care of by a few

months in the band so why not speed the process along. I also know several

people who have seen him and in their cases he did not recommend banding.

That made me feel confident that he didn't automatically recommend banding

every child with plagio. Hope this helps! Good luck with your

appointment. Feel free to contact me offline if you have any further

questions - mafoley@....

My son got his STARband from CIRS/Trish and we got great results and had a

good experience there. Nicolas went from 12.2 mm of asymmetry down to 4.6

mm and looks great. Trish was always quick to respond to my phone calls or

e-mails. When our band started fitting poorly after 8 weeks Trish took the

initiative to order us a new band (at no charge to us!) rather than try to

fix something that couldn't be fixed. Good luck with your new band!
