Guest guest
Hi, From these numbers I suspect that you will be having your dosage adjusted or perhaps have Cytomel added or Armour added/substituted. However, I am wondering if something else is causing the dosage not to be absorbed correctly. Now, my questions to you are: What is your diagnosis? How long have you and your doc been working on adjusting your med level? How long have you been taking this dose? If its less than 6 weeks your body is still adjusting, storing, starting to burn the Levoxyl. When you say " No Thyroid removed 4 years ago " was/is that a typo and your Thyroid was removed or was it removed? How are you taking these two doses? Are you taking them with food? Shortly before breakfast or shortly after dinner? Or as the manufacturer requires? which is 3 to 4 hours after eating and at least one hour before eating. Are you taking the Levoxyl with any other meds at the same time? Are you taking it with a glass of milk or juice or ? The reasoning behind the timing is that it takes full strength stomach acid (or as close to it as one gets these days) to break apart the pill compound and the synthetic T4 before it is absorbed by the body. Now, that waiting for one hour before eating or drinking is to be sure that the medicine is completely absorbed from the stomach acid before any food is introduced to the stomach and thus diluting the acid and possibly blocking the absorbtion of the synthetic T4. And the reasoning behind waiting 3 to 4 hours after eating is for the stomach acid to return back to its full strength. When I was on Levoxyl I took my pills first thing in the morning with water, only enough to swallow. No other medicine was taken with the Levoxyl. With breakfast or right after I took what ever other meds I had to take. With lunch I took my iron supplement with food, as well as my multi vit and super B complex. I hope this helps. However, those readings indicate that something needs to be adjusted. IMHO, your TSH should be below the 3.0 mark. For me, mine is below 1.0 and I finally feel like a human being. Your T4, which is the storage hormone, is outside of the range. Some of us do fine with this high of a level of storage T4, others need it a bit lower. Did your doctor order a Free T3, which is the active hormone which the body has to use, like right now, to function with? How and what are you eating? By any chance do you know about how many calories a day you are taking in? (these questions are related to your comment on getting shaky and eating a fruit cup to relieve the shakes.) Are you trying to lose weight? or just fine where you are? How is your skin? Is it dry and flaky or soft and supple? How is your hair? Is it thinning and dryer than say 10 years ago? I'm not on this group nearly as much as I used to be, however, these kinds of questions from others on this group helped me find the dosage that works for me. I look forward to seeing your reply. Guest guest
Thyroid was completely removed in 2002. I take it at night before bed, tried in am but i didnt function well, thinking of retrying am this again. been on this dose for over a year. on average i guess i eat 1500 to 1800 calories a day, I'll be honest i forget to eat alot, and usually one meal a day keeps me full for 80% + a day.n I try to eat a minimum of 3 times a day and have small portions so i'll be hungry later. I take my meds w/h20 - no milk lactose intolerant *sniffle* ( I miss Ice Cream) as for the wight - ugh - the more i try to loose the more a gained - I was doing pretty good for a while and was actually starting to loose weight ( sure my dr will take credit for that but it was more me than her) then my dad passed away in october of last year and she added yes added a new anti depresant to the mix, & it gave me the munchies and totally crewed up my sleeping, when I told he that she pretty much said i was wrong that it wasnt a side effect of the meds & it was me being depressed, & I should trust her cause she went to medical school and is the dr & I'm the patient ( yes she said that). yes she's stil my dr, since there is a real shortage of endo's in tucson az and I have no insurance im quite limited in dr's worth seeing, Im hopeing to be able to possibly start self treatment. I know that the jobs ive had in the past year have played a part in my health going the way they have and im in the process of looking for a job that won't mess my health and still allow me to pay the truck payment everymonth($700) *yikes* As for my skin - that honestly varries - but on average its dry & itchy - I do have a few good days where i dont have to lotion constatnly, by hair - well the only thing in the house that sheds more than me is the cat & and even most days I win that. Ive been w/o a thyroid for 4 years but was first diagnosed w/thyroid issues (when they found the goiter) 1996 and spent most of that time not being treated medically and what was treated probably wasnt right - i was on state medical coverage when i was first diagnoised and the removal of the goiter was denied because I could still breath. I know I just babbled away here, thanks for reading all this. I'm just glad to be able to say/type this and not be told its all in my head. > > Hi, > From these numbers I suspect that you will be having your dosage > adjusted or perhaps have Cytomel added or Armour added/substituted. > However, I am wondering if something else is causing the dosage not > to be absorbed correctly. > > Now, my questions to you are: > What is your diagnosis? > How long have you and your doc been working on adjusting your med > level? > How long have you been taking this dose? > If its less than 6 weeks your body is still adjusting, storing, > starting to burn the Levoxyl. > > When you say " No Thyroid removed 4 years ago " was/is that a typo and > your Thyroid was removed or was it removed? > > How are you taking these two doses? > Are you taking them with food?
