Guest guest
Hi all - any advice for the first fitting of a new helmet? Are we supposed to stick around for a bit to make sure no adjustments are needed? If so, how long would it take to realize it needed an immediate adjustment? We travel almost 2 hours to the ortho, so I wanted to be as on top of it as possible. Our apt now is for 11am on Jan 12 to pick up his band. Guest guest
Your ortho will look at the way the helmet fits and make any necessary adjustments right there. Ours also wanted us to go back a few days later after a bit of "real life" wear so I could see if/where there were any points of concern to me. I imagine every ortho is a bit different in the way they do a break in, but you can at least know that anything that needs to be done will be done while you're there. Guest guest
Hi - When we went for our first appointment Trish had us stick around for a little while (1/2 hour?) to make sure the band was fitting properly; granted, we lived only 1/2 hour away so it wasn't going to be too inconvenient to come back if needed. I noticed on other visits that families that were coming from further away were staying longer. A lot of them seemed to come for the fitting, go out for lunch (Ikea is 10 minutes down the road and has a great café!) and then come back before heading home. I would plan on staying for most of the afternoon - have your fitting at 11, go out for lunch long enough so that the helmet is on for an hour, then stop back by the office before heading home. Hope this helps! Guest guest
Our first fitting we were there a while, maybe an hour. Noah wore the helmet 15 minutes then they did adjustments based off where his skin had turned red/pink. Waited on them to fade, then did it 1-2 more times. The ortho did also take the time to trim around his face and neck area so Dh and I could 'see' more of him. When Jonas got his (twins got helmets 3 months apart) fitting she didn't trim any extra off, so I was sure to ask the next time we went in : ). That is a great suggestion to go to lunch with the helmet on and go back afterwards just to make sure nothing else shows up. > > Hi all - any advice for the first fitting of a new helmet?
