How horrible! I used to hear that farm workers had the most accidents on the job. I don't know if that is still true. What a horrible way to go!

**************************************************************************** A worker on my uncle's farm died like that .. a PTO is a "Power Take-Off" generator that is hooked between the tractor and an implement like a soil turner or a rake. They are very powerful and should never be on unless they are shielded. After that incident, my uncle and grandfather took me to a safety demonstration at the farm store when I was a teen. The guy that was selling the PTO units had a 500 ft roll of twine, about the size of a shoelace or the string in a windbreaker jacket, wrapped around a big zucchini squash .. he turned on the PTO and dropped the end of the string onto the shaft.. it completely unrolled the string in less than a minute totally destroying the squash. He said if the squash had been someone's arm, it would have wrapped the arm around the shaft 9 times in one second. They are useful tools but very very dangerous.. I will never forget that demonstration. I feel so bad for your friend .. what a horrible way to die. I just hope it was quick. "(Brat)" wrote:

Our RN at works husband was killed friday in a farming accident. His jacket got caught in a PTO(?) part of a tractor, and I guess I don't need to tell you the rest of the story. I cannot even imagine what is going through right now and hope I never do.
