Graduation Day!

Hi everyone, I didn't post here often but lurked alot and I have learned so much here. My son graduated from his Hanger helmet on wednesday! He was banded just after 4 months old for brachy and we are finally done after 3 1/2 months in the helmet, which he basically just outgrew. His CI went from 98% to 85%, which we are thrilled about, and his assymetry completely resolved. With a CI of 85, his head of course isn't completely normal, but now at least its really not noticeable unless you know what you're looking for. Unlike before the helmet, when random strangers would ask about his weird head shape. His head and face look so much better! Its funny I was so excited for this day but now I kind of miss his helmet. It was a big part of him for so long (almost half his life) that now it almost seems like something is missing! I'm going to try to post his before and after

pictures under R, although I tried once before and it didn't work. Anyway, even though I didn't post much, I just wanted to say thanks for all of the information that gets shared here; it made me feel so much better about our decision to go through with this. , mom to , brachy Hanger grad 1/23/08!!!! Thanks everyone, and thanks for the tips, Tammy. I understand what you mean about the helmet giving you peace of mind about preventing further denting of his head. Now every time I see him on his back I move him and hope that his brachy doesn't come back. I am lucky in that hates sleeping on his back; he is a tummy and side sleeper and has been since 4 months old (too late to stop the brachy) so I don't worry as much as I would otherwise. He sits up great by himself but he doesn't crawl yet either. He really spends very little time at all on his back, though I worry about car trips, stroller time, etc. Although I am worried about regression and miss his little helmet, I am definitely enjoying rubbing and kissing his sweet little head! Tammy Sabs <princessluau@...> wrote: Congratulations. I am so happy for you. You are now in the new position of a recent grad like me. I just worry that our kids are so young and I am working hard to make sure we dont have regressions. It is hard though my son is 7 months and graduated about 2 weeks ago. He is sitting up but not crawling so working with him and keeping him off his head still a challenge. He is sleeping right now and I am worried that he is denting his head. It is something I guess that comes along with it. I also sort of miss the helmet. It gave me more freedom and allowed me the peace of mind

to know that he was not denting his head further. Now I guess it is just a wait and see. I hope we both have the continued results we want. I hear the head fuses at around 18 months so we have a few months to go. Good luck and hug and kiss that head. I found my son likes when I rub or kiss him and hold him tight to my chest. Before it was never comfortable for us to do this with the bulky helmet. Best of luck and keep us posted if you have any questions. I use the roundabout car seat, (very soft backing) bought a naturepedic bed, very soft and good quality. healthychild.com I use the boppy to prop him up sitting when I am worried that he will fall back I use the pack and play with the boppy behind him to prop him so he stays off head. I use the high chair when we are at the table or he is near me in the kitchen to keep off the head. Stroller I have the Bugaboo Frog because it had the bassinett, (recommended to me pre banding to help him stay flat and gave me the option to use the wedge to direct him away from the flat spot) Now as a stroller it has a very soft fleece lining that helps me feel good about strolling him. It is fun and hard both at the same time. Enjoy your graduation day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Just some tips. Tammychristineashok <christineashok > wrote: Congratulations . I'm glad got such great correction. Mydaughter graduated at 86% and she's 2 years old now. I think her headlooks pretty good. Since your son is young you may get some post-bandrounding. My duaghter graduated at 10 mo, but we didn't notice any.-christinesydney 2 yrs starband

she is continuing on to college. That girl is going to be such an advocate

for Down Syndrome - wait and see what her future holds.

Subject: Graduation Day!

Hi,

I am soooo excited and proud of my baby girl who is graduating from

High School tonight! Her ceremony is at Lincoln Center, yes, the Lincoln

Center in NYC- so she will get to walk across the stage. There are about

1,000 grads and will be among them.

Time flies and I am so proud of how has grown into this amazing,

funny, smart, beautiful young lady! She will be going to Brooklyn College in

September- more about that in another post.
