Guest guest
Hi everyone. Im a year out from surgery and about 6 weeks pregnant. To make a long story short, we have military insurance and the policy at our local naval hospital is to not schedule the first Dr. appt until 12 weeks or later. I have explained my situation (I also had a miscarriage in May) to no avail. They basically just patted me on the head and smiled and chalked my distress up to hormones. I made a scene and they miraculously came up with an appointment 2 weeks sooner which to me is still a while to wait. In the meantime, I cant get in to see my surgeon until mid Sept as she is on vacation. I have a ton of questions.. First off, should I be taking my prenatal vitamin in addition to my regular multi? I know too much of some vitamins arent good. Im also anemic. Is this harmful to the baby? Im still taking my iron, is that ok. Finally, should i be trying to lose weight during this first trimester? Is it harmful to the baby if i lose weight at first? Eventhough im thrilled with the pregnancy, I cant help but be concerned about the weight issue and feeling like i didnt lose enough to begin with in that first year (112 lbs total)While my eating habits have definetly changed (I still slip up with ice cream), working out continues to be a struggle for me. I know this is long and i appreciate you taking the time to read it and hopefully respond:) Enjoy the rest of you weekend! -le
Guest guest
le, Okay... here's my advice... Realize that others may not agree with me, so take what advice you want, and leave the rest! :~) 1. keep taking your iron, 2. get your doc to call you in a script for natachews, 2x day, 3. start taking at least 1000mcg (1 mg) of folic acid, 4. calcium citrate (1200 mg), and 5. continue with your regular multi until you can see your ob and get bloodwork done. This isn't too much, okay?! Now, stop trying to lose weight. The book " What to expect when you're expecting " and " what to eat when you;re expecting " has very good diet ideas, recipes, etc. in them and try to get in as much of a balanced diet as you can. Keep your protien intake first, as typical, though... but try to get your calories up to 1500 to 2000 per day. The baby is going to drain you fast, otherwise. At only a year out, you need to try to eat as much as you can... you will still lose weight... I promise!! You may not gain any for a while, but that hunger bunny inside is going to take over soon and you will WANT to eat often!! I eat every two hours... if I don't, I get really nauseated, and I can't eat, which makes the nausea worse, and rapidly gets to being really sick. Sometimes, I have to force myself to eat a couple of crackers with peanut butter on them... but I know that if I don't, I'll get too hungry another hour from then and then get sick... Just listen to your body hunger and eat when it tells you to, as much as it lets you. I am amazed at HOW MUCH I can eat right now... when a month before I got pregnant, I couldn't eat a tenth of what I eat now! LOL!! I am 3 months pregnant and only gained 7 lbs... my doc is pickled tink over that, too! LOL! Anyway, don't fret, just take care of yourself as best you can, get your vities in, and be sure to eat!!! Hugs and good luck! Sharon DaniM16 said: > Hi everyone. Im a year out from surgery and about 6 weeks > pregnant.
