Hi -

I also have cats and had my myo on Oct. 2. If you have to bend, you must bend

at the knees, not bend over using your stomach muscles. It may help if you can

put the litter box up or elevate it so you do not have to bend down at all. One

other suggestion is to buy smaller containers of litter, or use an open

container with a plastic cup to scoop out the litter a bit at a time, because

you will not be able to lift heavy cartons of litter. You may want to buy all

the litter you need for several weeks before your surgery so you don't have to

carry it or lift it at the store as well (this goes for all heavy or large items

you may need post-surgery).

Good luck!

About bending over post surgery: it really depends on

the person. My friend was in pain and unable to do

much for 6-8 weeks. I'm now 4 weeks post myo

and--touch wood--doing great, even allowed to exercise

mildly. I could bend over after 1 week, but was

careful for another week after that not to do it

(sometimes I forgot). My energy level is virtually

normal, and has been for about 2 weeks. My abs are

still somewhat swollen and sore, but I've been wearing

my jeans since day 6 (though I like to wear a shirt

over them, since I don't like the little bulge

showing, but the bulge is small enough that i can

still get into my jeans. doc says the bulge could take

months to go down). Anyway, you should let your own

condition guide you. If it hurts, DON'T do it. And

ask your doctor for a minimum time to wait.
