hi, I am a 4 yr breast cancer survivor. I was 31 when I first found

out about everything. I had a lumpectomy, auxillary lymphnode

disection, radiation and now I am taking Tamoxifen. My children

were 4 and 9 at the time. My, now, ex-husband left me when I got

cancer. I left home and took my kids and myself from IL to CA to

live with my aunt and receive treatments. Here I am 4 years later

and have re-married. My life is never better and I am happier than

I ever been. Sometimes, I say that getting cancer was a blessing in

disguise because it made me stronger than I ever thought I could be

and made me realize that I was in a marriage that was ruining my

children and my own self esteem. But, now that I am re-married and

the question of children has come up. I want more children. But, I

am taking Tamoxifen and I still have 1 1/2 years to go. From what I

understand anout Tamoxifen is that in the beginning you get the most

benefits. THe longer you take it the less benefits you receive from

it. Basically, the majority of the benefits are received with in

the first 3 years of being on the drug. What is the sense in taking

it the whole 5 years if it only increases the percentages by a 1/4

of a percent. Is there anyone out there that has just decided to

stop taking it before the 5 year mark? And what did your doctor

tell you? Is it all that bad to stop? As of today, I have decided

to stop. I would just like to know if there is anyone out there in

the same boat that I am in. It is all so confusing.
