Guest guest
My daughter will be 3 months tomorrow, and we are just realizing that she had plagio (we think (I know), are waiting to see a specialist) She has a flatter shape on her left occipital region. First of all, I am trying to find the best way to position for sleeping and I need some advice. My intuition is telling me to lay her on her right side, with the right side if her face resting against the mattress. But I just read something about gravity pulling the growth of the brain to the affected side, so to lay her on the left side that has the flatness towards the rear, I'm confused??? I am new to this site and am just learning how to navigate. Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Maggie
Guest guest
Maggie, I noticed my son's plagio on the right back side of his head a little before 2 months and when I asked the pediatrician he said to reposition. I did that for 4.5 months and it did work to some extent but I am getting the DOC band to correct the remaining flatness and asymmetry. At night, I used to place a rolled up receiving blanket under my son's side but below his shoulder so that it wouldn't interfere with his breathing if he turned his head. I placed it on the side that was flat and turned his head so his head rested on the side that wasn't flat. By putting the recieving blanket under his side, it encouraged him to look to the opposite side without placing him completely on his side. Also when he was in his car seat or bouncy I would roll up a receiving blanket and put it under the flat side to prevent him from putting pressure on that side. Repositioning definitely works but I just wasn't completely satisfied so decided to get the band to improve his head. He was classified as moderate and will have the band for 2.5 to 3 months. Oh yeah, try putting her toys on the side opposite the flat spot so she looks that way and do lots of tummy time. You can carry her around in a soft carrier to also keep her off her head. Anything you can do to relieve the pressure from the side that is flat will help. Consult your pediatrician though because I'm not a doctor. This is just what I tried. OK, good luck.
