Guest guest
, I was also craving sugar throughout my pregnancy. I found it helpful to consume items such as chocolate milk and Balance bars because they also have nutrients in them which we need. However, after awhile I even got sick of those things. I did not discover Detour bars until the end of my ninth month, but they are very good as well. I also liked the chocolate bars from Trader Joe's which contain Stevia. I did not have them too much because I am not sure how good Stevia is for pregnant women. Immediately after delivery, I was able to go back to much better eating habits. Breastfeeding helps with weight loss, but that did not work for me due to mastitis. Long story--but I was even unable to pump with mastitis and everything dried up. I imagine you are hungrier than I was because you are eating for three!! Those twins are sure making you hungry!!!! That's an understatement! (grin) I eat anything that isn't nailed to the floor! I find that I'm really not eating a lot of sweets although I keep buying them from the grocery store. Yesterday I bought a loaf of pound cake and ate one small sliver of it. Go figure! I seem to always want something sweet about 10-15 minutes after a meal and the " type " of sweet always varies. Sometimes it is in fact, FRUIT, but others it's cake or ice cream or my ultimate favorite ROOT BEER! I really appreciated all the responses I've received and feel encouraged in my feeling that I'll listen to what my body wants and try to make health choices when possible. I'm human and sometimes a snickers w/ almonds looks sooo much better than a nectarine...so I'll take 3-4 indulging bites and stop beating myself up! Thanks for the support! Guest guest
Hi There, I am new here, but have some information that might be helpful. About two months ago a bariatric doctor came to our support group meeting and spoke about cravings. He went through a long and complicated talk about chemicals and enzymes and stuff in our bodies - but the bottom line (according to him) is that our bodies want protein but it comes out as a craving for sugar. His advice was to eat some form of protein at the onset of sugar cravings and wait 20 or 30 minutes and the craving should go away. I have found this to be true most of the time. I don't know how pregnancy hormones might affect all this, but it might be worth a try. Good luck!! Guest guest
I, too, have had rampant sugar cravings while pregnant. I've tried and tried to make myself eat protein before indulging in a sugar craving, but it is REALLY hard. Last night I saw a Seinfeld episode involving muffins and I just HAD to go to the store and buy blueberry muffins right that minute (we had no eggs or I would've made them myself!). I ate one and felt better. Usually, though, I try to make myself eat 1/2 cup of cottage cheese with Splenda (and sometimes I add fresh fruit) before I go for something sweet. It does help and usually it at least allows me to eat less sugar in the long run. A bowl of frosted mini wheats also does the trick. Guest guest
Boy, am in w/ you girls! I have been so bad and this is the 1st that I've a problem w/ this. I never had any sugar cravings at all until I was pregnant and over my morning sickness. So, today I bought some Blue Bunny no sugar added Bunny Tracks ice cream to eat here at work-I kept eating regular ice cream, just a little but still not good! I'm hoping it takes really good so that will keep me from getting sick or in trouble!! I also like the ice cream bars from Blue Bunny-i love ice cream any time of the year! Guest guest
By the way, hi Sheila! I agree with you, we are human. Our beautiful babies are worth a few a few extra pounds. But, the most important thing you said is " we are normal human people. " Normal people will eat sweets here and there.
