Guest guest
Hi everyone, It's been so, so long since I've posted, (more on that in a second), but have tried to keep up with reading messages.( Just a refresher - I have the 5 year little girl who was identified with her hearing loss last summer, and I was having sooooo many problems with our itinerant teacher and school district regarding her IEP.) We did follow everyone's advice, talked to the State dept, and had our daughter reevaluated by someone of our choice, (and surprisingly the results were almost exactly the same of the school's.) We did finish up her IEP at Thanksgiving, I have to tell you, it went so well! Why? OUr itinerant teacher could not be there, so they had another TOD from the district there in her place. (We fell in love with this teacher. She brought up so many good suggestions, thanked us for all we've done for our daughter, and recognised that our daughter has a hearing disability, and was not the behavioral problem the other TOD claimed she was. Side note - at the first meeting it was never " decided " that our daughter had a hearing disability, guess those aids she wears didn't mean much...)Anyway, we got everything taken care of at that meeting, but do you know when our TOD got back, she called me about the meeting, and actually tried to take credit for some of the goals and ideas I had put in the IEP???? Amazing, isn't it? She actually had the nerve to try that. Anyway, a few days after we had finished the IEP,my daughter came up to me and told me how she wanted her " other mom back from the white house " . THAT stopped me in my tracks... I don't know that I've ever mentioned it, but our dauhgter is adopted, so my first thought was that she wanted her birthmother back. (She's never met her BTW.) After talking to her a little more, I realized that she wanted ME back, the mom I was a few months prior to all of this. (We had just moved from a white house to this house right before we found out about her loss.) I had become so obsessed with getting her IEP done right that I'd become a cranky, old woman <smile>, and not alot of fun to be around. So, the last couple of months have been filled with tea parties, looking for buried treasures, flying to the moon, and just hanging out with her. Talk about a wake up call! So, that's where we are right now. Oh, and we're dealing with a major ear infection, of course it's in her better hearing ear... (Tell me this all gets easier...) We've spent the last couple of weeks at so many doctor's offices, not to mention the ER. So, that's kind of where we're at. Life is still a little crazy, I'm just waiting for the day it slows down. I just want to say thanks again to everyone who has helped us so far on this path, it's made such a world of difference for our family.
