Guest guest
Hi , the reason for waiting until 14 for jaw surgery is bone growth. The surgery itself may stunt the growth of the jaw. There are surgeons here in the states that are doing it much earlier now, but with the possibility of having to repeat the procedure again when the child is older. As Dr Nagata said growth again is the reason not to intervene to early with ear reconstruction. I my on experience being " different " wasn't such a problem until age 9 or so and even then it wasn't to bad. The really bad stuff didn't kick in until adolescence. So waiting until the right time medically shouldn't be to damaging to Bogdan especially if he has access to therapy if he needs it. (Growing up working poor and Irish catholic therapy was not even a consideration for me). Best of luck Steve Barrows With Goldenhars syndrome
