It's worth a try, but keep monitoring it. I found that getting IV iron REALLY helped me a lot. I've been GF for nearly two years, but oral supplementation did diddly squat for my levels. The IVs weren't exactly fun, but I'm a whole new person. Have his B12 checked, along with his folate levels. ygg
Guest guest
Me too, fatigue, fatigue for ever and ever. Gluten free living has solved much, but I needed thyroid support as well and adrenal support. I found that my traditional doctor saw “normal” on the tests and wouldn’t go further, but the naturopath wanted to boost me up into a more robust range. I find that the strong but natural thyroid and adrenal support he’s recommended has given me the right boost. Good luck. Laurie lbilyeu@... Guest guest
Thank you. I’ll ask the naturopath about bowel healing for him. He didn’t have the endoscopy, so I don’t have any “picture” of what the damage might be. Laurie lbilyeu@... My herbalist put me on Slippery Elm and B6 to aid in healing my bowel, probiotics to correct the bacterial levels, I-X (a vegetable based iron supplement) for my exaustion, colloidal minerals to help rebuild my strength, and had me drink a lot of plain broth from boiled bone included chicken breast for absorabable protein. My energy began to return and I began to feel like I could eat anything at anytime (but do not dare). I only share this in hope that it will help someone else as well. Tara P.S. Fresh carrot juice is a good overall toner, too. -----Original Message-----
Guest guest
Maybe there’s glutening. I just can’t find it. We both seemed to react to something over the weekend. He had the big D and I had a migraine. But I can’t for the life of me find it. We eat at home almost exclusively—especially him since he’s hardly left the house in 8 weeks. There’s no one else in the house, so I can keep it totally gluten free. But there may be something I’m missing. I’ll check supplements again maybe—that would be pervasive. He’s definitely eating enough. Eating me out of house and home even! But he eats healthy food, so I don’t complain. Laurie lbilyeu@... Guest guest
Interesting, because his b12 was 939 and the normal range for this lab was 200-1000 pg/ml. I wonder how that compares to the lab ranges you’ve seen? In any case, it’s pretty high BUT he was taking oral b12 during the test and the kind that dissolves under the tongue… Laurie lbilyeu@... A " fine " B12 level for my (former) doctor was above 250 - " fine " for me and my ability to stand upright and function is above 500. For reasons unknown to me, the U.S. standard of normal for B12 levels is about 250 to 700, other countries use a standard of 500 to 1100. There is no level of B12 sipplements considered to be toxic, so even if your son's level is within normal range, he, like me, may just need more than that to function. Guest guest
I would have your doc check into your vitamin D level as well as all the other good ideas floating around. I always thought my fatigue and muscle/joint pain was from being anemic but when test after test showed I was ok my doc looked futher. She did mention fibermielga (sp?) as a possability but it wasn't until I saw a rheumatologist that he thought to test my vitamin D level. Sure enough it was low. Low D levels can cause muscle-skealatal pain. He put me on a supplement once a week and things got better. My level did increase though not quite into the normal range. But I was just starting to go gluten free a few months before that and I was still being glutened by sources I was still figuring out. you should be able to get your daily dose from being in the sun for about 15 min a day without sunscreen but if your body is not absorbing it like mine that wasn't helping. I even had sunburn for one of the test that showed I was low!! But after really focusing on a GF diet and continuing on the cocktail of supplements (Vit D, B12, iron, multi-vitamin) I returned to feeling "normal" again within about 2 months time. Now that I am as GF as I can be I no longer need the vit D and I'm muscles and joints feel good...as well as my fatigue has subsided for the most part. sjkrup wrote: If you find an answer to this, I'd love to know! Guest guest
Yup, we supplement all of those things, but I’m intrigued by the possibility that none of it can be absorbed yet. I give him good quality vitamins, most of them doctor prescribed, but maybe a liquid? Or more sublingual stuff… I so appreciate everyone’s thoughts. I have a few threads to pursue now—but keep ‘em coming if any more ideas come up. Laurie lbilyeu@... But after really focusing on a GF diet and continuing on the cocktail of supplements (Vit D, B12, iron, multi-vitamin) I returned to feeling " normal " again within about 2 months time. Now that I am as GF as I can be I no longer need the vit D and I'm muscles and joints feel good...as well as my fatigue has subsided for the most part. sjkrup wrote: If you find an answer to this, I'd love to know! I was diagnosed 3 years ago, in my early 40's. I have been GF ever since, and I'm STILL experiencing debilitating fatigue. I've had extensive testing for thyroid, anemia, heart, lungs and everything else under the sun. No answers yet. I've been battling fatigue at varying levels since college. Perhaps some of that was due to the undiagnosed celiac, but now what? My legs often feel as though I've just run a marathon, even though I've walked 1 flight of stairs. (I'm not terribly fit, but I'm not overweight, either.) I also feel very sore and achey everyday. If I wasn't aware of the damage it would do to my liver, I would be taking Ibuprofen everyday, in large doses. I get tired of complaining to my doctor about the same old thing (although she's generous in giving referrals to specialists), but I think of how long the celiac was just a " vague set of symptoms " , and I suppose I must continue to search for answers. I would be interested in hearing from anyone else who has had similar symptoms? And perhaps a diagnosis?! > > Brainstorm with me? DS is still exhausted.
