Guest guest
I am supposed to start eating more normal foods. I just don't know what or how to do it. I am frozen. Being on the SCD put me into a special mode. I have been on the diet close to 21 or so months. Having had mini bowel obstructions and bowel obstructions being on the diet and for the past 8 or so years has also put me into a mode. Eating normal food so soon scares me. I think I am dealing with a lot of raw emotions like fear and just like a deer in headlights when it comes to eating. I would love to intro yogurt into my diet. Something tells me it may be somewhat difficult with die-off but intuitively it feels right. I just don't know how to eat. Should I try cooked foods first and graduate from there? I mean I keep being told " Jodi, you can eat what you want now post surgery " How have you with long term IBD post surgery dealt with eating and trying new foods? What was a bad reaction? I don't even know what a reaction would be like now and that has me very fearful as I am just starting to feel better (thanks to acupuncture- I have another appt today) I wouldn't want to cause any pain. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated! Jodi
Guest guest
Hi, I have never had to have surgery for my problems. Actually I have always been embarrassed to discuss my digestion issues with a doctor. So I have never been diagnosed. I've had serious issues since I was an infant. Until now that I am on SCD. Anyhow, my two little girls have autism and diet has really helped them so I've studied a lot about various diets and the conclusion I came up with is that one of the reasons this diet works wonders is because it is basically going back to eating what God put on earth for us to eat. I don't think after this diet I will ever go back to eating a "normal" standard american diet. No way, but what I did find in my journey is a diet real similiar to SCD (at least I think) the Maker's Diet which was my first instinct, to eat what God put on this earth for us to eat. So once we are finished with SCD we are going to introduce the foods from the maker's diet (the one's that were illegal on SCD) and never go back to eating what we ate before. Well, I just wanted to share my idea and hope that you find something that will suit your needs. Best wishes on your recovery.Blessings, MunizSubject: post surgery eatingTo: BTVC-SCD Date: Sunday, May 24, 2009, 5:01 AM I am supposed to start eating more normal foods. Guest guest
Hi Katy, I mean like SCD normal foods. I guess I didn't make myself clear. There is no way in hell I am going off of this diet LOL. Not a chance. Since I had an emergency bowel obstruction before the surgery I have been eating all pureed food. I am still eating this way- like soft foods post surgery. I am supposed to start eating more normal solid food and I find it terrifying. I am also do not know if I need to do gradual introduction for " new " foods for me or do I still do what I have been doing pre-surgery. My doctors tell me I will be able to tolerate many foods. So do I just try things? My GI thinks the pain I am having is a combo of bad post op pain management and also being on Prednisone. I have gotten a couple of emails from people that have been through resections and they also had a hard time recovering due to Prednisone. It hardens tissue. When did you start eating solid food post surgery? I am moving my bowels daily using magnesium (I did not get a letter head but I spoke to the owner of the company) and prune stew just to prempt any type of back-up narcotics may cause. Thankfully, I only need a patch now and need absolutely no oral narcotics. My Acupuncturist came to my house this morning and wants me to be on the patch until next week and then wean me. He actually said he is relieved I had surgery too as it was absolutely necessary in my case. Maybe when I have time to reflect on this experience and not be in such fight or flight mode I will feel more whole about everything. My husband says I have been in survival mode not really processing anything. You're emails/posts to me always make me feel better! Guest guest
jodi, I can understand your Dr telling you to eat normally. Personally I would go back to an early stage of the diet, not right back to the start, but act as if you were doing it again, and slowly introduce whatever you feel like, little bit at a time and go from there. Don't be afraid because even before, you had set backs, and now will probably be similar, take it slow and easy but have faith that you will get better, especially now the strictures and oedema are gone. jena husband chrons 8 mths scd 7.5 mths I am supposed to start eating more normal foods.I just don't know what or how to do it.
