Ben is having a very bad weekend, he woke up this morning woth a very

hegh temp, refusing to drink, in fact screamin gwhen anything when

itto has mounth, ran him up to the docs, he has tonsillitus and

thrush in his mount. he also has a viral rash. he is not happy, has a

tiny amount to drink. he is not dehydrated yet, but i don't think it

will be to long before he is in hospital for rehydration. he has

timed it well though, until two days age i was going mad trying to

get two final essays in at uni. they were finished, i had 1 night of

peace and now this!!!

can someone send me the protocol that Dr H suggests for rehydration?

a few more hours and he will have to be admitted.

Thanks

Ben will need to be rehydrated with electrolytes and D10 (10%

Dextrose). Once he has no ketones/hypoglycemia, they can lower it

to D5, but he must eat. As he eats and drinks, he can be lowered on

the IV, but he will probably need some " gut rest " before you can

reintroduce foods. If nothing else, his throat and mouth will need

to heal a bit. You should start out with clear liquids first and

add solids as he can take them. This can take from a day or two to

several. Don't be surprised if there are setbacks. Do NOT remove

him from the IV too soon or you will definitely have a setback.

Time will tell how long he needs this. There is no definite answer.

Good luck and let us know how it goes! Feel better, Ben!!!

Hi a

Have you tried using sachets of Dyralite[?sp]with a syringe. If you drizzle a

small enough amount inside his cheek it is quite difficult for him to spit

it out.I've done this with Christian when he was younger and although it is

incredibly time consuming anything is better than a night in hospital.Best

of luck

-hello justina My name is n and I was reading your message i

hahave 3 grown daughters and i will share something with you that i

use to do for my childern you may know and already tryed it but

anything is worth a try. Do you know the little push up pops the

ones that have like 100 in a box for like 5.00 well anyway keep them

in the freezer and let ben suck on them all day on and off it kind of

numbs there mouth so that they can eat it sounds funny to give them a

treat before they eat but he may be able to eat after he has about 3

of them. as for the fever do not put him in a tube that can send him

into scock take a cool rag and wipe him down offten with that and i

found that chilern motrin helps the best and fastiets to reduce the

fever i dont know why doctors don't tell you to use it but he does

work also the most important thing is feed ben with plastic wear and

not your silverwear get rid of it after every meal also what every he

is drinking out of i don't know how old he is so i don't know what

all will work for him do not let his tooth brush sit near anyone

elses also go to the dollar store and buy somemore every other day

throw the old tooth brush away i am in the dental field and grems

will breed in them also to make it less work cover his pilliow with a

towel every night and wash that every day in hot water spray his bed

every moring with lystol spray its hard to get rid of thrush when you

are still suing things that it is breading in also it is very easy to

pass along that is why you move his tooth brush and try not to let

anyone use anything that has been in his mouth. Hope that this helps

you and i hope that he feels better soon best of luck
