Reactions have varied, but I haven't had any negative comments or

experiences with anyone. Mostly they're just curious, or they just

comment on how cute he is. I would say more often than not, they

assume that the helmet is for protecting his head, because he has a

balance problem or is a " head banger. " I do think decorating it helps.

My son has the DOCBand and I just couldn't stand the idea of it being

white, it looks so medical. So I paint it and change up the color and

stickers every few weeks. It keeps it interesting and it prompts

people to comment on his cute " hat " rather than just staring.

Hope that helps!

I have a pin that says, "It's call plagiocephaly. Look it up!" and more people comment on that than they do about Malcolm's helmet. I also use it as a way to educate people about Mac's condition. Let the starers stare. The helmet is temporary, but their ignorance doesn't have to be!If life doesn't give you a happy ending, make your own.

It has been really easy! I get comments from older people who think

it's just a hat or football helmet for a baby. I once had an older

women (the first person to ever ask me) about it and when I told her

she acted very embarassed even though I smiled and acted like it was no

big deal. She avoided looking at me the whole rest of the way through

the grocery store. I would say most of the stares and comments come

from children.

Good luck, it's not as bad as you think it will be.
