Guest guest
Do not air brush it whatever you do. My sons was professionally air brushed near the Cranial Tech in NJ before we came home to Long Island. It started to peal and be picked off by his tiny nails by day 2. We had no choice but to go with it (He ended up with a peeling Mickey mouse helmet by the end) Besides I believe the airbrushing was toxic and not using any earth friendly products that if it did chip wouldnt hurt the child. I would put on stickers to avoid the whole mess if it was me. I wanted a professional to do it because I would mess it up if I did it. Can anyone tell me where I can get this done in the Waterbury, CT area? Guest guest
I know you said you want to get it done professionally, but I wanted to give you some encouragement that you CAN do it yourself. I just painted my aughter's and you can see it under "Our Plagio Babies - L- Lyla Joy." I think she's the last photo.I'm not terribly artistic, so I went with simple, but it's just enough to be cute and approachable.I just went to Walmart and got three bottles of acrylic paint - light pink, white and hot pink. The base oat took four coat (drying with a hair dryer inbetween), then I used some little sponge circles on sticks (by the paint in WalMart) to make white circles (use the paint really think and swirl the sponge just a bit). After the whit dried, I used a smaller circle for the hot pink paint. If you use it thick enugh, you only need one coat. Dry with hair dryer and then I put two thick coats of Mod Podge matte on it. It looks fantastic! At least I think it does. For a boy, I think they make some star sponge stamps. If you keep it simple, you really can't go wrong! Good luck! Please show us what you end up doing! Guest guest
I've changed my sons' band 3x already. The current one is a UFC theme. Its all black and the "UFC" in white and it says "I'll make you tap out" in the back and his name in the front both in gold stickers. I just used acryllic black paint and some stickers and sealed it with mod podge. It looks really cute. You can do it yourself. I'm not artistic at all and it came easy to me. Guest guest
Sandy- Lyla Joy's band is SO CUTE! I've seen one other paint job done as big circles/dots for a girl, and I just think the look is so cute. Great job! Guest guest
Unfortunately, I'm not in your area so don't have a recommendation. But if you do get it painted professionally, please be sure they only use acrylic paint, since anything else can be toxic. I would be leary of airbrushing, not sure they can use acrylic paint for that. Also, the paint tends to chip and you'll need touch ups, so for me, it was just easier to paint myself. I change it every 3 weeks because I can't stand the chipping and I like the variety. You can see photos of my son's paint jobs under Jake W. (I've painted it 6 times, it's really not that hard once you get used to it). Have fun decorating it! Guest guest
I, too, would recommend doing it yourself. I am ABSOLUTELY NOT crafty at all, and I was able to do it with my son's. He just got it on Monday, and I followed the directions under the " files " section --bought acrylic paint, brushes and stickers, mod podge and it turned out great. I'll post a picture of him in it under Drew C. I spent about $15 total and I still have lots of paint left over and the brushes. Got all of the stuff at 's but also some people said WalMart carries everything you need. ~ Drew, 5 mo rt plagio. > > My youngest son got a helmet a few weeks ago & I wanted to have it > painted.
